Ted Lasso will always remind me of watching with my son Ant.
We lost him in 2024. Those evenings together still mean so much to me. When I was at my lowest, comedy found a way through.
That's part of why I'm producing Laugh and Death: a night to laugh together and support Endurant Movement's work for neurodivergent youth and families.

Doors open at 6:00 PM. The show begins at 6:45 PM, so use those times to coordinate your evening with friends.

Guests must be 21+ with valid ID. There's a two-drink minimum per person.

Laugh and Death Tour is about that moment when a roomful of strangers laughs together.

For a few seconds, everybody has something in common.

Our night of comedy benefits the Endurant Movement. Its mission is to create safe spaces and real tools for autistic and neurodivergent youth and their families.

Because belonging should mean you get to be yourself. A young person should feel understood. The family beside them should feel supported, too.

That’s the purpose behind the laughter. Bringing people together for a night, with care for the people who need that sense of belonging every day.

My heart cracked wide open. And through that crack came a call to something greater than the pain.

Loss sent me to my knees.
But with my heart open and my eyes open... people showed up. Purpose showed up.
There is a path forward.

After we lost our son I believed two things: that I had failed as a parent, and that my best days were behind me.

I defended both of those stories, hard. Protecting your child is the one job, and I couldn't do it. And how could anything ahead of me be meaningful without Anthony in it.

Twenty years of training alongside Tony Robbins did not spare me from that. What it did was put the work in my body before I knew I would need it.

The story I live in now is different. I didn't get the life I planned for, and my destiny is still being written. My relationship with my son continues, and the work we're doing because of him reaches further than I could reach alone.

I would trade it all back for one more shot at saving him. That isn't on offer. So the only question left is what I do with the time that is. From my conversation with John A. Brink on On The Brink.

Ted Lasso was Neal's son Ant's favorite show.

After losing Ant in 2024, Neal knows the weight of the stories families tell.
The season finale brought him back to the choice to tell the truth, and to how comedy reached him when little else could.

Suffering is where you can't move. Pain is where you can. There's a difference and it matters.

When we're suffering, we're stuck. Incapacitated. Nothing moves.

Get just north of that, see one pinhole of light, and you're in pain instead. Pain lets you move. It sits right alongside joy, love, connection.

The weight doesn't disappear. You get stronger. That is a way forward.

Grief doesn't have an end point. What changes is how much life you're able to hold at the same time.

Kubler-Ross was right about the stages. What she didn't say is that they don't run in a line and they don't finish. There is no bow to tie on this.

So I stopped chasing the end of it. Before we lost Anthony my threshold for pain was low, and my love of life was already high. Now the range runs all the way in both directions. Unimaginable loss. Unimaginable joy. Connection and intimacy I didn't have access to before.

If you're in the part where you can't move, I'm not asking you to feel good about any of it. I'm asking you to look for one pinhole of light. That is the beginning of a way forward.

If someone you love has lost someone, this is the most useful thing you will read today.

You are allowed to ask about them. Say their name. Ask what they were like.

It will not remind us of something we forgot. It will not ruin our day. We are yearning for those conversations, and most of us are waiting for somebody to go first.

You don't have to carry it alone. Neither does the person you are thinking of right now.
