Fire protection or burglary protection? Which matters more in a safe?

The answer is usually both.

If a manufacturer is building a truly high-quality fire-rated safe, many of the same construction features that improve fire resistance also show up in their higher-security models.

That’s why customers shopping for a gun safe, home safe, jewelry safe, or high-security safe shouldn’t look at fire ratings and burglary protection as completely separate features.

A great safe should be designed to protect your valuables from multiple threats—not force you to choose between them.

We opened 24 safes after a wildfire, and one thing surprised us: how fi****ms were stored inside
the safe made a big difference.

Guns left exposed on shelves suffered more smoke, soot, and heat damage. Guns stored in cases-or even a cardboard box-often came through in much better condition.
