It's Operation Safe Driver Week, CVSA's seven-day traffic-enforcement and safe-driving awareness initiative taking place throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. From July 12-18, law enforcement personnel across North America will be monitoring commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers for high-risk driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, improper lane changes, failure to use a seat belt, impaired driving, fatigued driving, failure to obey traffic control devices, etc. Drivers operating unsafely may receive a warning or citation/ticket.

🚛Operation Safe Driver Week - July 12th - 18th 2026
- Operation Safe Driver Week is a safe-driving awareness and outreach initiative aimed at improving the driving behaviors of passenger vehicle drivers and commercial motor vehicle drivers through educational and traffic enforcement strategies and interactions with law enforcement.

During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, drunk or drugged driving, etc. Drivers engaging in such behaviors will be pulled over by law enforcement personnel and issued a warning or citation.

MAY 12th - 14th is DOT Blitz Week
During DOT Blitz Week, inspectors perform roadside and weigh station inspections, review driver credentials and logs, assess vehicle safety systems, and issue citations or out-of-service orders for critical violations.

For Drivers:
Electronic Logging Device (ELD): Inspectors will check for tampering, falsification, or ‘unassigned driving time’ that has not been recorded.
CDL Validity: Ensure your license isn’t expired or suspended in any jurisdiction.
Medical Certificates: Are your medical cards valid and up to date?
Drug and Alcohol Compliance: As always, inspectors will be verifying drivers are within legal ranges and are not carrying any illegal substances. Failure or refusal in testing results in an immediate one-year disqualification.

For Vehicles:
Tie-Down Condition: Checking straps, chains, and binders for wear, damage, or improper rating.
Load Stability: Ensuring proper blocking and bracing.
Securing Dunnage: Checking loose materials like wooden blocks, tarps, or unused chains are secured.
Trailer Doors: Ensuring doors, tailboards, and end gates are correctly closed and latched
