Yesterday, Debra Thompson of Strategy Solutions, Inc. facilitated the Bradford Area Alliance's 2027 Board Retreat. Board members reviewed the Alliance's 2026 progress through an interactive gallery walk, affirmed strategic focus areas for 2027, and worked in breakout groups to map a pathway to success for each one.

Thank you to the Alliance board for a productive session on Bradford's economic future. We look forward to seeing the 2027 Strategy Map take shape.

Here at Mat-Su Health Foundation, we aim to improve the health and wellness of the entire Mat-Su borough. That includes the cities of Palmer and Wasilla, as well as some of the Valley's outer areas, like Talkeetna, Sutton, and Glacier View. In all these areas, Mat-Su residents live, work, and play! Today we are kicking off Year 5 of Elevating Warren Nonprofits with local organizations, and the first item on the agenda is not a lecture. It is each organization assessing itself against the Standards for Excellence® so that the seven sessions and the one on one technical assistance that follow address the gaps that are actually there.

Most board problems are not people problems. They are clarity problems, because nobody ever agreed on who decides what.

Today at The Capacity Lab’s 2026 Retreat at SUNY Fredonia, Jacqui Catrabone is presenting “Houston, We Have a Board Problem: Navigating Common Governance Pitfalls,” and Debra Thompson is joining Linda Moore of the Sight Center of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Adam Bratton of The Nonprofit Partnership for a panel called “Stronger Together: Exploring the Collaboration Continuum.”

Here is one takeaway for anyone who cannot be in the room: collaboration is not a yes or no vote, it is a continuum that runs from sharing information all the way to merger, and the right move is almost always the next step rather than the biggest one.
