Shout out to one of the homies, Jim, who just wrapped up an absolutely insane Wyoming elk and antelope hunt.
Here’s his recap, but having heard the full story and knowing what these guys actually went through, this is a very humbled and toned down version of how this hunt played out.
When I say they dealt with hardships, I’m not talking about a few minor hiccups or a hunt that simply didn’t go according to plan. Some serious things went sideways that tested everyone involved and could have easily brought the entire hunt to an end on a dozen occasions.
They kept pushing, adapted, and ultimately got it done.
Wyoming Elk 2026 : A Backcountry Reflection
After three long weeks, I’m headed back to Pennsylvania from eastern Wyoming.
I have a few takeaways from this trip -
First (and most importantly) I am absolutely blessed to have a spouse and partner that is independent and self-sufficient enough to enable me to step away from our life for three weeks with little to no cellular service to chase my passions. It’s pretty remarkable, and I can’t say I know many people with a family as large as ours that could say the same ♥️ thank you B!
Second, this whole experience was hard. There wasn’t a day that went by that we weren’t presented with some extreme situation that required a level head, hard work or some combination of the two. It made me realize that who you do things like this with matters. It matters a lot! I spent 14 days with some hard nosed, no quit MF’ers, and looking back, if this trio wasn’t with the right people, it would have been miserable. Instead, we experienced major success, had all the laughs, and cemented memories that will last a lifetime.
Third, I cannot wait to do this again. This trip was a proving ground. It asked a lot of me and I answered all the questions. I have so many places I can improve, and I’m here for it. Prepping for this trip has brought out the best in me, living through this trip opened my eyes to all the work left to be done.
Thank you to my family, my homies old and new, and to everyone who made this work, you know who you are.
Until next time!
- Jim
