Inspiration to Independence is a business that began with a passion for being of service, a curiosity for how things work and a love of blending colors and inspirational words on canvas. I had a drive to continue to learn about trades that seemed nontraditional for women. However, as a you
ng adult I wasn't sure how to pursue that drive, so I continued on to college and studied Occupational Therapy. My curiosity continued to grow, Opportunities to be of service continued to present themselves and I continued to blend color with words. In combination with my skills learned in the classroom and in the community, my vision began to shift to a grander picture. I started i2i when I discovered a growing need in the community for woman to assist individuals in their homes, around their homes and in their lives. Meeting people where they are at, eye to eye. The business began by helping a few elders in the community that needed an extra hand for tasks around their home. They in turn recommended my services to their friends and I soon found that my time was filled with gardening, painting, repairing, meaningful interactions and valuable relationships. My previous training in OT, experience with home maintenance and personal skills became strong assets towards expanding this service. I took this passion and experience and enrolled in the Women’s Small Business Program to learn more about business startup, building a business and the viability in the community. Currently Inspiration to Independence has reached a wide range of people looking for assistance with their to-do lists, maintains a regular client base and continues to grow each season. I use creativity in more than the "project" work I do. I have always found artistic expression as a fun and creative outlet. Creations include: Mental Blocks, greeting cards, soul-ar panels, and other custom creative works. My vision for the future of Inspiration to Independence is to reach a wider service area as well as incorporate more creative projects to be purchased through an online website and store.
