While east coast temperatures might suggest otherwise, summer is only 5 months away and with it the annual Monticello-UVA Archaeological Field School. This summer we will continue our exploration of Site 6, an early-19th century slave quarter with evidence of at least two socially distinct households. For more information and application instructions see the attached flyer.

I regret to say that the Anthropology and Archaeology club will be inactive during the 2017-2018 academic year. Thanks to everyone who has supported the club in previous years. The Office of Student life is a good place to visit if you are interested in other opportunities to be involved in a student activity or organization. - Dr. Brown

Life at CCBC is rich with time-honored traditions and lots of new experiences to explore.

Join our trip to the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology on Saturday March 18. The museum has exhibits on the history and culture of societies in Africa, Asia, and Mesoamerica and has a particularly good collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. As part of our trip, we will have a private lecture from Dr. Steven Phillips, a forensic anthropologist, who will talk with us about his research on mummies and Egyptian archaeology.

After touring the museum, we will stop by the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia where you can shop for some of Philadelphia’s famous foods.

The trip is free and open to all CCBC students. The bus will be leaving from the Essex campus at 8:30 am and returning to Essex about 5:00.

You must register for the trip in advance by going to the office of student life on the bottom floor of the Romadka Student Center (same building as the bookstore and café). A $10 deposit is required to hold your space, but I will hand you that money back on the day of the trip. You can use it to buy lunch at the market!
