Iowa Lakes Community College SERT Programs & Training

Iowa Lakes Community College SERT Programs & Training Training for both the industry and the programs of Wind Energy, HVAC, Water Quality, Electrical Tech

The Sustainable Energy Resources and Technologies (SERT) building at ILCC houses more advanced training, from wind and solar to HVAC and geothermal. It is a vital resource for connecting other renewable and sustainable resources and technologies together. Not only will energy systems continue to be a focus, but several other disciplines studying energy delivery as a “system” are brought together i

n this unique, new environment. The Environmental Studies and Sustainable Energy programs connect intuitive “dots” illustrating why sustainability is so vital to America’s future, and an industry training element offers continuing education and certifications in focus areas. The SERT represents our next step forward in building a pathway toward a sustainable future.

Engineering Technology students were given the task to make a 4 axis robot pick a block from an automated pneumatic block pusher, place it on a conveyor, the conveyor, controlled by a VFD would send the block to a 6 axis robot which would then place the robot in a 2 row x 2 column x 2 layer pallet. After 8 blocks, the process would stop. Took the students less than two lab periods to get this done. Hand on learning is the best learning!

Students in the robotic programming class recently programmed a robot to play Blackjack. The robot will pick a card from the deck, take a picture of the card and allow the player to hit or stand.

Students in the Engineering Technology program solve problems and troubleshoot electromechanical systems. Programming and automation concepts are taught with an emphasis on hands on learning in labs as well as lectures.

Engineering Technology students Levi Lindell and Curtis Klingbeil along with instructor Chad Tischer, were at the Arnold’s Park Maritime Museum today to solve a pneumatics problem using a programmable logic controller (PLC). After some programming changes and a different controller, the problem was solved successfully! Students in the Engineering Technology are always looking for better and brighter ways to make things work. Thanks to the Maritime Museum for allowing us to help them. The museum has something for everyone to see. Check out their website for more information https://arnoldspark.com/maritime-museum/. Just wanted to share this article, my son Ben Waddingham, was thrilled to be in on the bill signing in Des Moines as well as the Governors local visit to Ben's new employer in Kanawha Iowa recently.

He is using skills gained in the Electricity program at Iowa Lakes Community College. He has been working full time since April and recently bought his own home in Garner.

Thanks for helping students succeed!

Gov. Kim Reynolds visited Priority Electric in Kanawha as part of her 99 county tour and answered some questions people had concerning COVID-19 and the economy.
