Restoring a "Statesman, Jurist, and Diplomat" 🏛️🎨
He was named Time magazine’s "Man of the Year" in 1946 for his work as Secretary of State.
Known as one of the most powerful figures in 20th-century American politics, Byrnes holds a unique place in history—having served in all three branches of the federal government as a U.S. Senator, Supreme Court Justice, and Secretary of State. Here in South Carolina, we remember him as our Governor and a tireless advocate for the state’s growth. His footprint is everywhere at Winthrop University. From the iconic Byrnes Auditorium (which he secured the funding to build in 1939) to the Byrnes Foundation, which has provided life-changing scholarships to over 1,000 students, his legacy continues to shape campus life today. Bringing the depth and dignity back to this portrait was a truly rewarding project. Please read the captioned photos. It’s an honor to help preserve the history of a man who dedicated his "lifetime of service" to South Carolina and the world. 🖌️✨
