Building a KMC MAX | The Foundation

Every KMC MAX starts with a foundation built for power, traction and performance in demanding terrain.

At the heart of the machine is a Volvo Penta diesel engine, paired with a hydrostatic drive system to deliver the power and control needed for challenging off-road applications.

Here's a look at the central chassis frame and powertrain during assembly, before the tracks, cab and other components come together.

A firefighting machine that doesn’t sit idle.

Fire season only lasts a few months of the year in many regions. But what if that same equipment could stay productive year-round?

The KMC MAX 300FW is built for more than firefighting. With a 10,000-litre water tank and integrated water cannon, it’s ready for wildfire response. Remove the tank in under 20 minutes, and the same machine can be put to work transporting crews, moving equipment, clearing brush, and more, on slopes, mud, or snow!

You name it! KMC MAX is there for you on the same platform, multitasking, year-round in any conditions!

More than 60 years of proven tracked engineering. Reimagined for what comes next.

KMC MAX may be a new company, but the platform behind our machines has spent decades proving itself in some of the world’s toughest environments, from steep mountain slopes and deep swamps to forestry operations and demanding off-road applications.

Now, we’re taking that proven foundation forward.

The new-generation KMC MAX 100 and KMC MAX 300 have been fully redesigned with modern safety systems, improved operator comfort, updated manufacturing, and purpose-built capabilities for wildfire and vegetation management.

The legacy continues, but the machines are built for the challenges crews face today.

First machines targeted for completion in December.

Every year, we ask more of the people on the front lines.

Whether it’s wildfires, floods, hurricanes, or other natural disasters, emergency responders are facing increasingly challenging conditions. They need equipment that can go further, work harder, and operate where conventional machines simply can’t.

It’s something we think about a lot at KMC MAX, and it raises an important question:

Are we building equipment for the emergencies of tomorrow, or are we still relying on equipment designed for yesterday?

Our own Alex Gorissen explores that question in a new article, looking at the changing demands of emergency response and why the future may not be about buying more equipment, but making every machine more valuable.

From wildfire suppression and flood response to vegetation management, disaster recovery, and year-round preparedness, Alex shares the thinking behind building equipment that can adapt to what comes next.

The KMC MAX team recently traveled to New Zealand, to the Taupo region, (with one of the biggest lakes in the world) to learn more about the country’s wilding pine challenges, emerging opportunities in biomass, and the evolving needs of the forestry and land management industries.

With their rugged terrain, steep slopes, and demanding vegetation management conditions, New Zealand represents an environment where the mobility, power, and versatility of KMC MAX machines provide real value.

We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to build relationships in Australia and New Zealand.

Thank you, New Zealand, for the hospitality!

At the AFAC 20256 Conference in Melbourne, Australia, KMC MAX had the opportunity to speak with Mark Dryden, Executive Officer from Volunteer Fire Brigade Victoria. The conversation was fantastic and extremely informative thanks to all of Mark’s knowledge; we were able to discuss the current firefighting landscape in Australia and discuss how our KMC machines could help support operations through the countryside.

The volunteer-based Country Fire Authority (CFA) provides essential 24/7 protection across most of the state. Its roughly 60,000 trained volunteers are a critical part of Victoria’s emergency response system, protecting lives, property, communities, and the economy while highlighting the need for continued investment in training, equipment, infrastructure, and volunteer support.

Thank you to Mark and to all AFAC attendees!

Last month, Alex and Thomas had a great few days at AFAC26 in Melbourne, connecting with wildfire and emergency response professionals from across Australia and around the world.

It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from those working in the field, discuss the challenges agencies are facing, and share more about what we are building at KMC MAX.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us at AFAC26. We appreciated the conversations and the opportunity to be part of such an important industry event.

Different missions. One engineering philosophy.

Every wildfire operation is different, which is why KMC MAX offers machines built to meet different operational needs while sharing the same purpose-built foundation.

The KMC MAX 100 is designed for vegetation management, fireline construction, and fuel reduction, giving crews a compact, capable platform for demanding terrain.

The KMC MAX 300 builds on that platform with a removable 10,000-litre water module, exceptional off-road capability, and the flexibility to transition between wildfire suppression and other emergency response roles throughout the year.

One commitment: building equipment that helps wildfire agencies and emergency response teams work safer, smarter, and more effectively when it matters most.

The first challenge isn't always fighting the fire. Sometimes it's getting there.

Steep slopes. Soft ground. Remote access. Uneven terrain.

Wildfire operations don't happen under ideal conditions, which is why traction, stability, and operator confidence matter just as much as horsepower.

The KMC MAX platform was engineered with independent suspension, low ground pressure, and a steel soft-track system designed to help crews access the places where the work needs to be done.

Because when every minute counts, getting there matters.
