After a thorough systematic analysis, Micheal Sandbank, PhD, at the UNC School of Medicine and other researchers across the United States found that evidence was lacking that higher intensity interventions provided increased benefits for young autistic children.

Parents are often filled with a sense of responsibility that they need to prepare their children for the outside world by toughening them up or illuminating for them that there are consequences for actions through doling out punishments, but all it really does is deepen relationship cracks and create an oppositional dynamic.

Kids need support, compassion, guidance, and secure place to fall when they stumble so they can develop the resilience they need to face the challenges of the world when they no longer have that same parental protection. ❤️

New OIS-Family Workshop date: December 1st, 2023!
This is a great workshop for family members that need more information on how to support loved ones with behaviors that can be challenging. It is also a great way to learn OIS strategies that may be written into a family member's behavior support plan.

I love the storm metaphor... We miss the mark when we focus so hard on where we want to go/be rather than meeting ourselves or others where we currently are!
