I’m honored to be featured in OregonVoyager.

This interview gave me an opportunity to speak openly about the road that shaped me and the work I now know I am here to do.

For years, I could walk into a room, a conversation, a business, or an organization and see what was missing. I could sense where someone was carrying too much, where decisions were stuck, where energy was leaking, and where the structure had not caught up with the vision.

For a long time, I thought my gift was devotion.

I now understand that it is discernment; the ability to perceive what is happening beneath the surface, recognize the deeper patterns shaping a situation, and guide people toward the next clear move.

I have often described myself as an organizational architect. And while architecture remains an important part of what I create, I am coming to understand that I am more fully a shamanic strategist and guide.

I read the field. I listen for what is not being said. I help leaders distinguish between noise and truth, identify what is ready to shift, and translate that clarity into grounded strategy, decisions, and architecture.

That is the heart of Envision Impact Consulting and Talk to Venus.

I work with leaders, founders, businesses, and mission-driven organizations carrying meaningful work and real complexity. I help them stop spinning, see clearly, and build what is needed so their vision can move forward without everything depending on one person.

I’m deeply grateful to OregonVoyager for making space for my story and to every person and organization that has trusted me to help illuminate the path forward.

When I walk into an organization, I am not just looking at what is getting done.

I am looking at what the work is costing people.

Who is carrying the most?
Where are decisions getting stuck?
What lives only in one person’s head?
Where are roles unclear?
Where is the board underdeveloped?
Where is money creating pressure?
Where are people reacting instead of leading?
Where has urgency become the operating system?

These questions matter.

Because burnout is not always a personal problem.

Oftentimes, burnout is organizational information.

Over-functioning is not a leadership strategy.

It is often a sign that the structure is not clear enough.

When one person keeps stepping in, covering the gaps, remembering the details, absorbing the urgency, smoothing over the communication, and carrying the emotional weight, the organization may look like it is functioning.

But it is not functioning in a healthy way.

It is depending on one person’s capacity to compensate for what has not been built.

That may work for a while. Until it doesn’t.

Strong organizations do not require one person to disappear into the work.

They build clarity, responsibility, and support around the work.

Devotion is not infrastructure.

A person can care deeply and still need support.

A founder can be brilliant and still need systems.

An executive director can be committed and still need a functional board.

A board can believe in the mission and still need clear expectations.

A program can be powerful and still need operational structure underneath it.

In mission-driven work, we often confuse devotion with capacity.

They are not the same thing.

Devotion may start the work.

But structure is what allows the work to continue without consuming the people who care the most.

Some of the people I work with have started joking that “structure” is their trigger word because of me.

I get it.

For a lot of people, structure sounds like bureaucracy, control, rules, restriction, or someone telling them they are doing it wrong.

But that is not the kind of structure I am talking about.

I am talking about structure as relief.

Structure as clarity.
Structure as shared responsibility.
Structure as protection.
Structure as the thing that lets people breathe again.
Supportive structure does not take the heart out of meaningful work.

It keeps the heart from being crushed under the weight of everything the organization has not yet learned how to hold.

When the structure is missing, the human becomes the structure.

They become the reminder system.
The follow-up plan.
The emotional container.
The backup staff.
The board support.
The donor memory.
The communications hub.
The emergency response system.
The person who “just figures it out.”

From the outside, this can look like dedication.

Inside the person carrying it, it often feels like exhaustion, resentment, grief, pressure, and a loss of self.

That is not sustainable leadership.

That is an underbuilt system relying on a human being to absorb the gaps.

Meaningful work deserves better than that.

So do the people carrying it.

Meaningful work can no longer require self-abandonment.

I am saying this clearly because I see too many good people giving themselves away in the name of service, mission, community, caregiving, leadership, and “doing the right thing.”

People are exhausted.

Not because they do not care.

Because they care deeply and the structure underneath the work is not strong enough to hold what they are carrying.

When the structure is missing, the human becomes the structure.

That is where burnout begins.

Because the work matters.

But so do you.

I found this photo from about 18 years ago, very pregnant with my youngest.

And it made me laugh because apparently, I have been organizing chaos for a very long time.

Different setting. Different kind of work. Same instinct.

Look at what is happening.
Find the pattern.
Sort the pieces.
Create function.
Make the work easier to move forward.

That is still what I do today through Envision Impact Consulting.

Now the “chaos” may look like unclear roles, bottlenecked decisions, board confusion, informal systems, stretched capacity, or meaningful work that has outgrown its current structure.

But the work is familiar:

See what is tangled.
Understand what matters.
Organize the pieces.
Build the architecture needed for what comes next.

I build the architecture that turns vision into function.

There is a moment in leadership when something becomes clear:

The way things have been working can no longer hold what is trying to emerge.

It may show up as overwhelm.
Bottlenecked decisions.
Unclear roles.
Too much living with one person.
Systems that worked before but no longer support the work.
A sense that the next phase is asking for more structure, more clarity, and more capacity.

That moment is not failure.

It is information.

It means the architecture needs to evolve.

My work is helping leaders build the architecture that turns vision into function; aligning people, decisions, and systems so there is capacity for what comes next.

I know what it feels like to give yourself away in the name of good work.

I have done it.

I have believed so deeply in the mission, the people, the urgency, and the need that I kept pushing past my own limits.

Until my body and spirit finally said no.

I burned out hard. I had to step away from everything. I had to go to the forest and remember that I was a human being, not an endless resource.

That experience lives inside my work now.

When I talk about structure, I am not talking about bureaucracy.

I am talking about protection.
I am talking about clarity.
I am talking about building systems that do not require one person to carry the whole weight.
