We will donate these items to an organization that will data-wipe, refurbish, and then provide them to an Illinois household in need.

A self-storage facility is a business that rents lockable space to people who own more stuff than they know what to do with. The U.S. is the world leader in the self-storage industry, with roughly 90 per cent of global capacity. Units range from closet-size to cavernous, including spaces that are large enough to hold entire houses. “People who work in self-storage often say that their market is driven by ‘the four D’s’: death, displacement, divorce, and downsizing,” David Owen writes, “all life events that entail sudden collisions between stuff accumulation and reality.” Owen takes a road trip from Connecticut to Kansas City and back again, and visits a slew of self-storage facilities along the way: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2026/09/21/the-american-religion-of-self-storage-facilities?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dhfacebook&utm_content=app.dashsocial.com%2Fnewyorkermag%2Flibrary%2Fmedia%2F722201889
