Perry Township Fire Department serves as an American Heart Association Regional Training Center, helping instructors and organizations provide high-quality CPR, AED, and First Aid training throughout our region.

As we recognize CPR & AED Awareness Week, we're also looking to partner with:

* Fire Departments
* EMS Agencies
* Schools
* Businesses
* Churches
* Community Organizations
* Healthcare Providers

If your organization would like to offer American Heart Association courses but needs a Regional Training Center to work through, we'd love to talk with you.

Our Training Center provides support, oversight, instructor assistance, and access to the American Heart Association training network.

Together, we can put more lifesaving skills into the hands of more people throughout our community.

Wow, did we have fun today at our annual Fire & EMS Demonstration Day at Perry Heights Middle School! Each year, to wrap up the school year, we spend a day with the 7th graders, giving them hands-on experience in the Fire & EMS Service. Students got to spray fire hoses, use extrication equipment, learn CPR, meet Fire Dog Kia, and watch a demonstration on why you never pour water on a grease fire.

It’s always a great day of learning, teamwork, and, hopefully, inspiring future firefighters, EMS providers, and community leaders!

Happy EMS Week, and a BIG THANK YOU to Hacienda Mexican Restaurants West-Pearl Dr. for feeding us during our EMS training night!

While enjoying some excellent food, our crews completed a refresher training session in preparation for our upcoming MCI (Mass Casualty Incident) drill. Coming up in June, we’ll be working alongside our training partners during our annual multi-agency exercise to help ensure we’re all prepared and ready to respond if disaster strikes.

We truly appreciate the support from our community and businesses that help keep our first responders fueled and ready to serve.

It was a fun and challenging morning for our newest members and firefighters with anywhere from 1 to 40 years of experience as they teamed up for a double training session.

The morning started in the EFD Confidence Maze, where members navigated through extremely tight spaces while remaining on air from their SCBA tanks. The maze challenges firefighters both mentally and physically while reinforcing confidence, air management, and staying calm in confined environments.

After that, crews moved to aerial ladder operations, learning how to “feather” the controls of our 100-foot aerial ladder with smooth, precise movements to carefully place a tennis ball on top of a traffic cone. It takes teamwork, communication, and patience, and every crew completed the challenge successfully.

Training days like this help build skills, trust, and teamwork between generations of firefighters.

Boehne Camp Road has reopened. Beginning Wednesday, May 6, Middle Mt. Vernon Road south of the Lloyd will be closed for two weeks. Thank you for your patience as our work to modernize the Lloyd corridor continues.

Do you have a severe weather plan in place?

7:30 P.M. UPDATE -> Two possible outcomes for tomorrow.

● Outcome 1: The morning storms and cloud cover linger through the afternoon, limiting warmth (fuel) for the evening round.

● Outcome 2: If coverage of morning and early afternoon storms is lower, a more volatile atmosphere will favor more intense evening storms capable of very large hail and tornadoes.

NOTE - "double check" your NOAA Weather radio to confirm it is in good working order for tomorrow nights possible severe weather event. It is always a good idea to have multiple ways of receiving NOAA weather warnings.

We also have a scheduled briefing tomorrow morning with the US National Weather Service Paducah Kentucky and we will have updated Graphics on the timing for tomorrow nights potential severe weather.

..Elevated Wildfire Danger This Afternoon...

Elevated conditions for wildfires are expected this afternoon,
mainly between 12 PM and 7 PM CDT. Relative humidity values will fall to 25 to 35% this afternoon, and winds will be breezy from the south, sustained at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph forecast. Vegetation is dry due to ongoing moderate to extreme drought conditions over much of the region.

Outdoor burning and activities that involve open sparks or flames are discouraged. Please report all wildfires to local law enforcement as soon as possible.

Schutte is now open ahead of schedule. A similar closure at Felstead is expected to begin today, Friday, April 17, following the reopening of Schutte. Please plan ahead and monitor conditions along the Lloyd using INDOT TrafficWise or 511in.org.

This week, we honor a group of people who are always heard but rarely seen. They’re the steady calm on the other end of the line 📞 on what may be the worst day of your life. They’re the ones who send the officer, firefighter, or deputy you need 🚓🚒🚑 in your darkest moments.

Our dispatchers often carry the weight of calls most people could never imagine—
a mother whose child isn’t breathing 💔,
someone witnessing indescribable violence 😢,
a grandmother calling for help for the love of her life ❤️.
They rarely get closure. They rarely get time to breathe. And still, they answer the next call… and the next… and the next.

The people who work here are true heroes 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️. Like any workplace, not every day is perfect—but when things get tough, they come together and operate like a finely tuned machine ⚙️. Watching them handle a spring storm 🌧️, a winter ice event ❄️, or even a “normal” shift (if such a thing exists) is truly remarkable.

Across the country, 9-1-1 centers are facing dispatcher shortages 📉, and we are no exception. Our team has endured constant cycles of training, overtime, emotional strain, and burnout. Yet they show up every day, committed to serving and protecting the people of Evansville with unwavering professionalism 💪🖤.
