Borrelia garinii is a species of bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease, a tick-borne illness that is transmitted through the bite of an infected deer tick. While there are several species of Borrelia bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease, B. garinii and other species of Lyme are much less commonly known than Borrelia burgdorferi. 🦠
In addition to B. garinii and B. burgdorferi, other species of Borrelia bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease include B. afzelii, B. spielmanii, B. bissettii, and B. valaisiana. Each of these species is associated with different symptoms and geographical locations, and all are transmitted through the bite of an infected tick. 🕷️
