We are making progress! The new CE course, ArtKey: Use art to unlock more effective trauma narratives, is almost ready! Kendra and I have been working hard to put together a 4 week course that teaches you how to enhance your trauma treatment with art. We've distilled the process and have figured out that there are two essential skills a client must have in order to do the work this way. We have about 20 art invitations that your clients can practice in order to master these two skills--all the while benefiting from therapy. We've also formulated meaningful art invitations for your hands-on learning. And we have put it all together for you in two powerful case studies.
We still have filming to do....and the CE's are nearly approved. But so many of you have asked for an update I wanted to be sure to give you one.
Here's the back story in case you didn't get to read it in a prior email.
As some of you know, during the last two years I’ve attempted to formulate more teaching, more classes, something to continue to support you in bringing creativity and art into your work. Every time I sat down to write a new curriculum it felt too hard or pressured. I wanted to, but I was still in transition and needed to sink in further to a new way of living. Like many of the projects that I had planned, I put it on the back burner because I refused to force it.
There was something brewing anyway in this wonderful fertile time.
At the same time, I was supervising a former workshop student of mine named Kendra McGivney, LCSW. She’s smart and experienced and creative. We share similar roots in starting our careers in Wrap-Around services and in working with teens. Since she works for LA county, her treatment approach has to be evidence based and she uses Trauma Focused CBT every day. At the end of our year and a half, weekly supervision meetings, a huge lightbulb went off for me. I realized that Kendra and I had formulated a very exciting and effective way to enhance exposure-based trauma treatment with art. On our last day, I invited her to co-create a course with me that features her successful case studies and the powerful new approach we formulated in our work together. She said yes!!!!!!
Doesn't that sound great!!!?
