In yesterday's post, I told you how carefully Jim at Rockin J's unloaded the gravel my husband and I ordered from Polar Mining. This short video shows you how he spread it. My husband told me that he wanted to spread gravel on the "car park" area to the left of our driveway, which was full of weeds and ruts. I went online to Polar Mining's website (www.polarmininginc.com) and found the product I thought would work best (FRT for $8/yard). Then I went to the page with delivery drivers. The second listing--Jim at Rockin J's (388-3902)--turned out to be great. I told Jim what we wanted, and just two hours later he showed up at our house in a gleaming white dump truck. He did a magnificent job unloading 10 yards of gravel--a careful, steady unloading that saved us tons of time since we finished leveling the gravel pad by hand. The cost of the delivery? Only $135. Needless to say, my husband and I were THRILLED.

Dan May, President of Polar Mining, Inc.: "The video clip of a loaded haul truck dumping gravel in the settling pond is something I consider to be almost unbelievable. This is a 330,000-lb.+ loaded truck, carrying 60 yards of 6MT tailings, running across 30 feet of settling pond mud--mud so bad you can't even walk through it when it's wet. It's like quicksand. And yet, 3 - 4 feet thick of our 6MT tailings supports that truck as shown (still unbelievable). Where the photo is taken, I'm over 500 feet out from the edge of the former pond. Once the truck makes its turn in the distance and heads towards the camera, it is operating on top of the capped settling pond mud. The truck then stops, turns and backs out on a narrow d**e, one truck wide, with only enough room for safety berms alongside. This d**e is like a road base at this point, and it is being built to direct the water/mud inflow that you can see flowing on the left side. We cap the settling pond mud each year to get usable ground back, as part of our continuing reclamation program."
