Here's some wisdom from Alyssa, our Senior Associate, to end your work week: "At the end of the day, people are more appreciative of the support you gave than the outcome you worked toward with them. Any kind of uncertainty really changes the possibility of the entire project. Experiencing budget changes, grant rejections, project delays, oh the absolute fear. Seeing a partner or client experience those things whose work depended on a specific funding source that is not coming in, -10,000 pts emotional damage.
We know that our partners and client's operations or paychecks are dependent on that funding. Someone’s job, someone’s access for food, or safe housing, critical services, all depend on this. And it is incredibly hard sometimes not being able to change it. Through these times, I have been grateful to be re-affirmed in that people care much much more that they have someone there with them. Even though we may want to pull out the magic wand and change everything - sometimes the magic wand isn’t a phone call to the powers that be, or a check, a change in systems. Sometimes, the magic wand is you just being there, learning and experiencing and hurting with them."
