I remember nearly a decade ago I co-hosted a show on KRUU called Vehicles of Sound with Jeddin White. The premise was taking you on journeys of various kinds through the audio landscape with different vibrating vessels. The bit bus, the sonic submarine, the... techno train? (I don't recall if that was real) The trip was colored with sounds of deep techno, house, soul, funk, minimal and even some indy rock... It was a journey I'll never forget, and I think had an influence on me to believe I could take up podcasting... Appreciation to KRUU & the Crew that made it possible. James Moore thank you good sir.

Now KRUU solar-powered-grass-roots-radio (the first of it's kind) is a thing of the past but continues to live on in the online archives at http://www.kruufm.com/...

I want to thank the great James Moore for giving me (and many more) the opportunity to share our deep cuts, and vision for whatever we were into at the time. Many thanks too for Jeddin White, fellow DJ and audio artisan for the many late nights in the studio.

In the immortal words of Mos Def: "Memories don't live like people do.
They always remember you. Whether things are good or bad, it's just the memories..."

I will remember KRUU.

Notice to the Fairfield Community Regarding Low Power FM License

Fairfield Youth Advocacy, Inc. is exploring the possibility of transferring the LPFM license (formerly KRUU-LP 100.1 FM) to a local community organization for the purpose of creating a community radio station. Interested organizations should respond with a Letter of Interest (should be less than a page!) to [email protected] with the following information:

-Organization overview and mission
-List and bios of board members
-Overview of current programs within the community
-Vision of the community radio station they would implement should they receive the LPFM
-Contact person and phone/email for follow-up questions

The Fairfield Youth Advocacy, Inc. board will receive LOIs until the end of March 2018, after which a decision will be made regarding whether to pursue a transfer of the license.

NOTE: Should a transfer be pursued, FYA will provide the transmitter, cabling and antenna only, and not the tower, real estate and other studio equipment. If the proposing organization is interested in these assets, please note the same on the Letter of Interest and provide evidence of financial capability to acquire the station building and assets.

KRUU Announces Station to Shutter on March 1st

It’s with a mixed emotions KRUU's board announces this beautiful open source juggernaut, a DIY citizen-based little train that could--and did--ride the rails, mostly uphill, for more than a decade in our local area and across the globe, spreading information and inspiration 24/7, will cease broadcasting on March 1st.

What we’ve created at solar-powered, people-powered KRUU for going on twelve years is an amazing tribute to the colorful, committed, creative souls in our neck of the woods and what’s possible when a community comes together with a clear vision and mission, a healthy dose of blood, sweat and tears, hours and hours of selfless giving, and fruitful, directed activity.

As the ‘voices of Fairfield, Iowa and beyond’, we have lived up to our mission, and beyond, in so many ways. We have much to celebrate and to be proud of and thankful for--especially the scores of talented hosts and cherished supporters who have made it possible to operate as long as we have.

It's been a pleasure and honor doing our best to serve the community, attracting over 250 volunteer hosts over the past decade, some who've been doing weekly programs since our launch on September 30, 2006.

The board was unanimous in its decision to let this proud chapter in Fairfield’s community broadcast history stand on its own merits, accomplishments and integrity.

We are in the process of drawing up parameters and a timeline to offer a short window to accept community proposals for a possible transfer of the LPFM license and broadcast assets which should be in place in the next week or so. Stay tuned...

How sweet it is...

Now into its second decade of broadcasting, and with great appreciation to Fairfield Youth Advocacy/The Beatbox (FYA) for creating and maintaining a valuable community asset, as well as setting the compass and trajectory of our community radio station, a time of transition has arrived.
