It's Tips For Thursday!
Thursday's are a time to pick an industry and help provide some tips that could help grow and gain exposure for all businesses that fit that niche.
The Industry Topic is Restaurants - Instagram Content and Tactics
Tip #1
Food content does really well on Instagram and since your establishment has an abundant amount of great food you will want to focus on that. Take simple straight over head pictures with a clean plate and background. Be sure to use contrast in your background and plate color to make the food really pop out (If you are a traveling food establishment like a food truck this won't be as easy to do, but what pictures seem to do well is a well lit shot of someone biting into your delicious, messy street food and having them look like they are really enjoying it).
Tip #2
Focus on your signature dishes that your regular crowed comes in for on the daily. This will niche you down and thin out the noise in the food industry. Meaning, if you keep posting pics about one of your best selling dishes people who keep seeing that dish will start associating that so called dish to your restaurant and before you know it they will wake up one day craving your signature dish and know exactly where to go to get it.
Tip #3
Use your best performing posts as ads from time to time. Utilize the hyper targeting ability of Instagram advertising and target your ideal demographic, location and so on. Hashtags and liking and commenting can only gain you so much exposure and the followers or engagement you receive from those efforts are not the most qualified. You will easily get spammer accounts and people in different locations that will most likely never visit your state let alone town. As a local business you will want to target down and spend your time and money in the right places which can be done using the Instagram ads.
Tip #4
Reach out to influencers in the food industry like local media outlets and other food related channels to get them to share or shout out your restaurant. Give them a great shot of your food and see if they will do it for free. Most will require payment, but again if they are local and they have great influence it could mean really good traction for you. If they really are local try to get them in and get a shot of them eating one of your dishes. Depending on how much their approval and shout out means to you it might be worth feeding them and some of their friends for free as long as they post something for you.
Tip #5
Keep up with replies! Always respond to direct messages or comments and never let negative stuff stay on your posts. If someone has an issue with your content or service remove it from the public and address them directly. Negative responses are severely damaging and it could be the 1 out of 1,000 customers that had a bad experience which can deter many from ever trying. With that being said make sure you stay positive with these responses. Be sure to address the issue in a polite manor and then resolve in some form of kickback or retribution. Trust me even if that was their mission to get a free meal it isn't worth allowing them to be angry. Obviously, if it is the same person over and over again then you will need to set some discretion here and say enough is enough.
Tip #6
Try and get your audience involved in your posts. Occasionally post a random shoutout to your audience like a comparison pic of two different dishes and ask them a question. For example your restaurant serves high quality steak and your lobster dish is really good too. Post one pic showing both dishes side to side and caption, Steak or Lobster? Comment below!" After that let your audience tell you what seems to do the best. BTW! You can use this tactic and actually use the poll function in your Instagram stories and get accurate analytics reported back to you. You can use this form of posting as a gauge of what dish you might want to focus on most when posting your food content.
Okay, thats enough for now! We can literally talk about this ALL day, but at some point we have to stop.
Until next time and happy hunting marketers,
Cheers!
