Stop being patient ‼️🚨

Real talk, after 20 years in HR leadership….Patience is the most useless career advice anyone in leadership can give you. If you’re a leader and you’re currently saying that your team, you and I both know that’s a cop out.

Opportunities and the next level don’t wait for you. Any change, especially one that gets you ahead, takes intention, planning, and purposeful action.

Replace “patience” with this instead:

Where are my leaders at that have over 13,000 unread emails in their inbox?! Anyone? 👀 No, just me? 😂

This is one of my favorite productivity hacks that I learned about a while ago that has literally saved me on days where I knew I wouldn’t even have a chance to get a bathroom break, let alone respond with anything meaningful.

couple this with making sure that your inbox is synced to your calendar so that by default, anytime you’re away or heads done in a project, you have a project auto reply that says you are not currently available to respond to via email, but will be following up within 24 to 48 hours.

Because email was never designed for actual emergencies or crisis, it was designed for information flow and one click easy communication.

Trust me, if it’s really so important, they’ll find you.

Leadership doesn’t live behind a screen ‼️

After almost 20 years of leading teams and coaching others to do the same, here’s what I know for sure: your people don’t want a script. They want YOU. Your voice. Your energy. Your honest take. Your “I’ve actually done this and here’s what I learned” presence.

The moment you hide behind AI-generated talking points or a teleprompter of bullet points you didn’t write, you chip away at the very thing that makes you a leader: trust.
So if you’re someone who’s been leaning on your screen as a crutch, here’s how to step out from behind it:

1. Prepare 3 key talking points, not a script.
Write down the 3 things your team MUST walk away with. That’s it. Everything else you can speak to naturally because you’ve actually lived the experience and understand the work at hand.

2. Rehearse out loud, not in your head.
Say it to your mirror, your dog, as you are driving in. Hearing your own voice work through the message is how you find your rhythm and catch what doesn’t sound like you.

3. Lead with a real story before you lead with the ask.
Open with a moment from your own experience that connects to the message you need to send. Stories build trust faster than data ever will, and they prove you’ve done the work you’re asking them to do.

Guys, I’ve had it with this one. My PSA for today (listen in) ‼️🔊

I’m so tired of seeing corporations squeeze the souls out of their best people just to put an extra $$$ on the bottom line and then lay them off after hitting quarterly earnings. It’s disgusting. # #

Profits are necessary for success AND People are the means to enabling successful profits. This is not a if/or situation….this is a both/AND situation.

The best leaders understand this. The best companies build this into their business planning. They genuinely commit to their best people in good times and in bad. If 💩 is hitting the fan, they trust their team to find the fix and give them the opportunity and runway to do so. talentmanagement
