Tell Your Representatives: Support Historic Investments for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Final Budget

Under the leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul, the Executive Budget included significant investment in the I/DD service delivery system, which speaks to her desire to solve issues facing New Yorkers head-on.

Following the release of the one-house budget proposes by both the Senate and Assembly, we believe the State Assembly’s proposed 11% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase is the most straightforward and effective way to allocate the significant investment that Governor Hochul proposed in her Executive Budget.

TODAY - noon to 3pm in Rochester - Chamber to distribute free KN95 masks, test kits to businesses

The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce will partner with Monroe County and the Rochester Red Wings to distribute KN95 masks and COVID-19 test kits free of charge to local businesses.

The drive-thru event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday in the VIP parking lot at Frontier Field.

The materials are meant for essential and public-facing employees at greater Rochester-area businesses. Membership in the chamber of commerce is not required to receive masks and test kits.

There will be a limit of 100 masks and 30 test kits per business. Each test kit contains two tests.

We made contact with a group in California who is creating a neighborhood for individuals with developmental disabilities. Apparently, CA has the same heightened scrutiny issue as NYS, but "Together by Choice" is clarifying this with CMS' direction.

We are excited to welcome back Melissa Harris from the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services as she will share the latest updates on CMS's HCBS regulation and implementation with a focus on "isolating settings" and the Heightened Scrutiny process. Ms. Harris will also reiterate the role of states in making decisions about the implementation of the HCBS regulation.

This is interesting - they are bucking the trend of "heightened scrutiny" (pocket neighborhoods, % of set aside beds for OPWDD in housing) by using CMS' direction.

What started as a farm offering people with developmental disabilities a way to contribute and find purpose is expanding into a community with the addition of a pocket neighborhood.
