Such a powerful visual of how quickly a horse can shut down, even from what looks like a totally normal use of pressure. Watching Nadine’s other videos, you can see how playful and engaged this mare usually is (and even at the start of this clip!).
What I love most is what happens next: instead of pushing through, she pauses and listens. She recognizes Nina’s mental state and pivots to something the mare enjoys, bringing her right back to curiosity and engagement, even though it wasn’t the original plan.
It’s such a good reminder that the line between “with you” and “checked out” can be incredibly thin. Small changes - timing, feel, awareness can make a huge difference. When we stay in tune with our horses, we don’t just get compliance, we get connection.
