We cut the comb you saw in the previous picture, and secure it into an open frame with rubber bands. The bees will stay with the larvae. The second picture is of the bees in their new hive in our Apiary. We are not sure we got the queen, but the fanning of wings was a good indication that she is in the hive. We will take a look in a few days to see if there are new eggs, or perhaps even see the queen.

This is what the previous infrared picture looks like. The bees were located beneath the right-hand window. The second picture is what we saw after we had taken 3 boards off. This is the most bees we have seen when capturing a swarm, or doing a removal like this one.

I haven't posted here for a long time. We have 4 hives this year, but one doesn't have a queen at the moment, and I don't know if we can save it. But we got called to remove a hive from a barn wall, (not used as a dairy barn anymore.) The bright spot is where the bees are located, this is what a thermal camera can do for us when we are trying to locate a hive of bees in a building without tearing several holes in the walls. You can faintly see a window outline above the orange/yellow area. The bottom of the window is about 6 feet above ground level. The corner of the building is a couple of feet to the right of the window, and there is a door a couple of feet to the left of the left window which means we can just take off the 8 foot pieces of siding and be right at the bees. This should be a fairly simple removal.

Went out to check the bees yesterday when it was 44°F and only 2 of the 5 were still alive. Bummer.

I checked bees 🐝 yesterday, and found a hive that only had a couple hundred worker bees. (There should be 20,000 to 30,000 bees minimum starting the winter) But I did find the queen. Now I have to figure out how to keep them alive for the winter. I put them in a smaller hive called a 'nuc' and they are currently in my garage.

A great day of extracting the honey we harvested in July and again in August with friends and family.
