I am looking for an as-needed web developer who can help balance our load when we need extra hands on client projects.
# A bit about me:
I am Scott, and I have been working on websites for close to 30 years. For about half of that, I have used freelancers to help with different pieces of the work. My background is full-stack-ish: PHP, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, jQuery, some Node.js, Python, Bash, databases, and a degree in Unix/Linux.
This is not a full-time job or fixed-shift role. I run a small wobbly web shop, not an agency.
# The Work:
Most of the work is practical website support: WordPress updates, theme/plugin troubleshooting, PHP fixes, CSS/layout tweaks, small JavaScript fixes, form issues, basic hosting tasks, and the occasional legacy-code mess that needs someone calm enough to trace what is going on and let one thing lead to the next.
A lot of my focus is what I call “queue” work. A client pings me with “hey, can you take care of this?” I add it to the queue, and it pops out the other side handled. These items usually range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
At times, I get new site builds, mostly WordPress, but sometimes static HTML, Shopify, custom PHP, or wobbly legacy PHP projects.
# Why work with me?
I am laid back. No meetings, no stand-ups, no high-pressure nonsense, and no one looking over your shoulder. All communication is simple chat messages, Asana task comments, and at times emails.
I do not babysit anyone or hold any hands, so you need to be able to take initiative. I do not care if you work at 2 PM or 2 AM. You can work when it fits your schedule, within reason, as long as the work keeps moving, client work is handled before the deadline, time is logged, and you speak up when something is blocked, unclear, missing access, or outside your skillset.
I value clear communication, steady movement, and people who can say “I’m stuck,” “I need access,” or “this is not in my skillset” before things go sideways.
# Will you fit in?
Are you laid back & friendly? Are you deeply honest, and value integrity over saying “yes” to everything? Are you strong with English? Will you take initiative? Do you maintain steady communication? How much of our code/tech stack do you overlap with? When code or tech goes to war with you/us, can you take a deep breath and let one error lead to the next?
This is a good fit if you like flexible workflow, small business websites, practical fixes, and the odd dusty old codebase that needs a patient mechanic.

Please do not contact me another way. Anyone who does will be rejected, including messages like “Hi, I applied but wanted to introduce myself.” That tells me you did not follow instructions.
