Overcoming Challenges with Strategic Insights: A Guide for Leaders

April 1st will always have a special place in my heart ❤️.
Four years ago, after navigating immense adversity during one of the most turbulent chapters in modern history, I proudly became the first graduate of the COVID cohort at Northwest University to earn a doctorate degree, completing the journey in just two years.

My doctoral research, Exploring the Relationship of Transformational Leadership on the Effects of Employee Job Satisfaction since the Onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic Era, was an original mixed-methods grounded theory study conducted within a government organization. This work represented far more than an academic achievement, it was the product of relentless sacrifice, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to contributing something meaningful during an era of unprecedented change.

Four years later, I still reflect on that season with deep gratitude. To whom much is given, much is required. The lesson here; just keep going.

Clarity is built in the doing, in the decision to show up, speak up, and lead even when you don’t have it all figured out.

Leadership Lessons from a Quiet Giant

There are people who leave a mark on the world, not through noise, but through consistent, quiet excellence. Dr. Elwin or aunty Jen Jen as we, her nieces and nephews called her, was one of those people. A trailblazer, healer, and a devoted servant to the people of Dominica, her passing leaves a void that cannot easily be filled, but her legacy offers lessons that will endure far beyond her years.

1. Aunty Jen Jen in her younger years.
2. She got a full scholarship to study medicine and was the island scholar in Dominica in the mid- 70s.
3. She was one of my inspirations to pursue a doctorate in leadership in 2020.
4. I graduated with my doctorate with distinction in 2022, one of the first to graduate with a doctorate in two years at NU.

The leaders I coach share one quiet struggle.

Reacting instead of directing.

WHO you are ( your values, NOT your title)
WHERE you’re taking your team (vision, Not just goals)
HOW you show up when things are hard (character, Not just competence)

When this align, confidence is something you embody.
