The construction of the Windsor Locks Helicopter Hangar is complete!

To celebrate, the project team toured the finished facility, and QA+M’s own Lori Donadio was on hand to see her hard work pay off in person.

At approximately 11,000 square feet, the facility is designed to house two standard issue UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and features a Safespill floor system that automatically detects fuel leaks via sensor and extinguishes fires with a water flushing system. This prevents the use of harmful chemicals and the extensive cleanup associated with traditional foam fire suppression systems, making it a safer and more environmentally responsible solution.

Congratulations to the entire project team on this milestone. The Windsor Locks Helicopter Hangar is a great addition to the Connecticut Army National Guard and a project we are proud to have been a part of!

The Barbour Street development hit its first major milestone with an official project kickoff.

Led by Citadel City Development and Mutual Housing Association of Greater Hartford, Inc., this milestone brought together members of the Hartford community, Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, and many project partners to celebrate the official start of a transformative redevelopment.

Once complete, the 80,000-square-foot mixed-use development will provide more than 70 affordable housing units, three commercial spaces, and a childcare center serving up to 50 children—creating a vibrant community where families can live, work, and thrive.

We’re proud to be part of a project that will have a lasting impact on Hartford for generations to come!

Great communities don’t just preserve their history. They build on it.

The Northern Middlesex YMCA held its 2026 Annual Meeting, where our own Tom Arcari, AIA and Lori Donadio, AIA, NCARB joined community members and organizations for a morning of staff recognition and an annual report of all that the YMCA has accomplished this past year.

We’re excited to be a part of the renovation and addition of this historic building and can’t wait to see it brought to life for the Middletown community.

A historic building with a modern future, from a community that made it happen.

Behind every project is a team that made it possible. Last night, we got to celebrate two of them.

We are proud to share that two of our projects were recognized at the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) 30th Annual Project Team Awards. First Place in Healthcare (Small) was awarded to the Beacon Hill Medical Center in Southington, CT, and an Award of Merit in Pre-K through Grade 12 Schools (Large) was presented to North Branford High School in North Branford, CT.

Thank you to the CBC for this recognition and Congratulations to everyone who contributed their time, talent, and expertise to make both of these projects a success!

Every great school starts with a great design, and sometimes the best classroom is the building itself.

QA+M’s Andrew Reagan and Dominic Cavallo had the opportunity to present at the North Branford High School Environmental Science Fair, walking students through the sustainable design decisions that shaped the very building they learn in every day. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the students and community that call this award winning building home.

Bringing this design to life for the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers has been incredibly rewarding. Visit the link below to find out more about the new North Branford High School.

A big welcome to our newest Design Professional, Peter Catapano!

For Peter, architecture is an opportunity to learn and grow with every project. The constant problem-solving and creative challenge is what keeps the field so engaging and meaningful.

Outside of work, Peter is an adventure seeker through and through. He has gone jungle zip-lining in Thailand, is an amateur pickleball champion, and loves to travel and experience architecture firsthand around the world.

We are thrilled to have you on our Team, Peter!

Ready...Set...Shovel!

Construction on the Middlefield Memorial School Renovation has officially begun! This project will renovate the existing 47,000 square foot building and include a significant two-story, 60,000 square foot addition, transforming the Middlefield Memorial School into the Three Oaks Memorial School for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 students.

The modernization will upgrade classrooms, technology education, performing and visual arts, assembly and community use areas, and much more. The new campus is designed to serve as a community hub and a model for school upgrades across Connecticut.

Congratulations to QA+M’s own Rusty Malik and Carson Collier, along with the entire project team, on reaching this exciting milestone. We can’t wait to see this remarkable new school come to life!

The ribbon has been cut and the units at Berkowitz II are ready to become homes!

As the architects on Berkowitz II, every decision was made with quality, safety, and affordability at the forefront. The 28 affordable units range from studios to two-bedroom apartments, featuring modern finishes, energy efficient windows, and ENERGY STAR appliances. Before construction was even complete, all 28 units were already allocated to individuals facing financial insecurity or escaping domestic violence.

To commemorate the occasion, many key figures of the project attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, among them Sharon Castelli, CEO of Chrysalis Center, New Britain Mayor Bobby Sanchez, Connecticut Department of Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz. QA+M's own Kent McCoy and Tom Arcari were on hand to see their hard work open to the New Britain community.

As Mayor Sanchez stated, "Projects like this strengthen neighborhoods, revitalize downtown and remind us that when we invest in people, we invest in the future of the city."

Congratulations to everyone on the project team who made Berkowitz II a reality!

We are excited to welcome Melissa Izzio, IIDA to QA+M Architecture as our newest Interior Designer!

For Melissa, design is about understanding each client's story and transforming it into a space that feels unmistakably their own. By listening closely and responding with clarity and intention, she creates environments that are functional, meaningful, and deeply connected to the people who use them.

Outside of work, Melissa has climbed an active volcano, driven across the country twice, and taught herself to be ambidextrous. We are so glad to have her on the team and look forward to the impact she will make!

We are excited to announce that construction has officially begun on the Glastonbury Nye Road Affordable Housing project, now known as Hillside Village!

The QA+M team was joined by CHFA Managing Director of Multifamily Pat Giuliano, State Department of Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Governor Ned Lamont, and many others to celebrate this exciting milestone. The $36.7 million development will replace an underused office building at 55 Nye Road with 64 units of affordable multi-family housing across 19 residential buildings, a community building, and parking for 106 vehicles.

The development will feature 24 one-bedroom units, 28 two-bedrooms, and 12 three-bedrooms, with 13 assisted living units administered through the state Department of Social Services. Eighty percent of units will be designated affordable, with the remainder at market rate. Construction is expected to take 18 months.

We are proud to be part of a project that will make a meaningful difference for the people who will call Hillside Village home, and grateful to all of the partners who helped make this groundbreaking possible!
