Today, the DEKON Environmental Services team took time away from our busy schedules to participate in mutual aid spill response training.

Many people don’t realize the enormous volume of fuels, petroleum products, produced water, and industrial chemicals stored and transported throughout San Juan County every day. With thousands of oil and gas wells, pipelines, tank batteries, processing facilities, and fuel storage locations across the county, preparedness isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Our county has only a handful of companies capable of responding to large-scale spills that could impact our communities, farmland, rivers, and protected waterways. That’s why training like this matters. Strong mutual aid partnerships and ongoing education help ensure responders can work together safely and effectively when an emergency occurs.

Today, the DEKON Environmental Services team took time away from our busy schedules to participate in mutual aid spill response training.

Many people don’t realize the sheer volume of petroleum products, produced water, industrial chemicals, fuels, and other hazardous materials stored, transported, and used throughout San Juan County every day. As one of New Mexico’s most active energy-producing regions, the county is home to thousands of wells, pipelines, storage facilities, and industrial operations that are critical to our economy but also require constant vigilance and preparedness.

Our county has only a handful of companies capable of responding to large-scale spills that could threaten our rivers, reservoirs, and protected waterways. Recent reports have shown that San Juan County continues to experience some of the highest numbers of waterway impacts from oil and gas-related spills in the state, reinforcing the importance of maintaining trained responders and strong mutual aid partnerships.

At DEKON, we are committed to ongoing training, safety, and environmental stewardship. These exercises help ensure our crews, equipment, and response partners are ready when communities and the environment need us most.
