Two of my favorite poets and favorite friends have poetry collections released this spring from Kelsay Books: Stephanie Kay Sugioka, Leavings, and Bill Glose, Terminal Diagnosis. Impressive, beautiful books.

Stephanie Sugioka is a retired English professor with master’s degrees in creative writing and Chinese literature and a Ph.D. in education. She has published a memoir entitled The Hidden Stream: A Life in Prose and Verse (Unicorn Bay Press, 2020) as well as a number of poems in literary magazines....

My daughter Emily worked as Unit Production Manager on this wonderful project

Love Perseveres. Three unlikely friends with special needs challenge societal expectations and form an unbreakable bond, but when the nonverbal member of the group misses a message from the guy who loves her before he passes away from a heart condition, their friendship is put to the ultimate test.

Heading to the College of William and Mary this weekend for a poetry festival sponsored by the Poetry Society of Virginia where I'll be giving a presentation and reading. I'm excited to be part of this event with so many poets of prowess who will be there. And it will be sweet to be back in Virginia again where I lived for over 38 years.

It's been a good while since I've said hello, but I do want to wish you a happy and productive New Year. To catch you up a bit, I've completed four book editing projects this year, one of which was published (the others are in the works to send book proposals). I've done a few virtual poetry workshops and am still writing for our newspaper, Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Let me know what you're up to and if I can help you with any writing or public relations projects. That's me in the photo with my wonderful husband, Wayne Rhodes, a talented and expert landscape photographer.

The pandemic isn't slowing down the freelancers I know. As for me, I'm feeling super thankful for all the work that's coming in. Currently, I'm writing website content and newspaper articles, and just finished editing a couple of book manuscripts. I'm also teaching two virtual workshops at the Muse Writers Center in Norfolk, VA. It was a scary season after I was laid off from my career position of 13 years, followed by 11 months of unemployment, but building my own business has made me a better woman!

Here's a creative use of one freelance writer's talent during the pandemic:

If you're looking for a great organization to give to on tomorrow, I recommend The Muse Writers Center in Norfolk, Virginia, one of the nation's premier writing centers of its kind. The Muse is a nonprofit that offers classes in everything from poetry to screenwriting, flash fiction, detective fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, and so many others. Scholarships are offered for students who need assistance with tuition. The teachers are all practicing writers and experienced instructors. I happen to be one of them! Please give. https://the-muse.org/
