The Great People of NWA and One We All Already Miss!

Starting Here!

Tommy and Robyn Van Ross Van Zandt

I know we all miss Tommy Van Zandt. Tommy and Robyn Van Zandt are two of the most amazing people we will ever meet. Ross and Jack, there two sons, are also pretty amazing young men.

In our eyes, Tommy still lives. In our eyes, Tommy was right; Robyn truly is an Angel. What she went through each day in supporting and serving Tommy, none of us will fully understand other than to know she is in her own class for being a great human being.

This video speaks to the kind of person Tommy was / is, as he comments, at our request, on how people who are experiencing adversity due to Covid, ,might consider dealing with it. Tommy is fully aware of the adversity some were going through during Covid and ways they might want to consider getting through that adversity. While living through bouts of pneumonia many winters and being in and out of the hospital quite often fr those and other reasons, over those 15 years after the injury, how Tommy gathers so much empathy for others amazed us that day and amazes us on this day.

Michael Paladino asked Tommy how he gets there, in his challenging condition. Tommy answers this beautifully.

The next part of this turns to us getting to help Tommy. First, Sarah Fennel Buchanan brings up the book that Mark Saviers wrote about Tommy's life that is titled "Flipped" and how valuable that book was to Sarah. One can purchase that book and proceeds go to the trust that helped pay for the care Tommy needed and deserved.

Then, Tommy expresses concern over whether there should be a Tommy's Nite Out during covid when people's incomes are down and people are struggling. He then asked for input from those on the zoom call.

We Can Lead from Anywhere

This is when Sarah Fennel Buchanan , founder and CEO of Restore Humanityand Jody Salmonson Dilday shine.

While Jody is this amazing leader of the Arkansas Community Foundation and gave Sarah the most beautiful assist for her encouragement, Sarah changes Tommy's view of having an event during covid! We all have heard it said that we can lead from anywhere! Sarah demonstrates this in an impactful way when Tommy asked the question. See the link below to hear it for yourself.

Tommy's comments stand alone for the greatness he had in helping us realize that for just about any piece of adversity, we can find a way to overcome it and to live a life that is full and meaningful and positive and helpful to others.

Sarah confirms why her Restore Humanity is worthy of our support because she is a great leader of this initiative and the impact the organization, not unlike how Sarah helped Tommy here, is deep and amazing, making an impact on many lives in Serumbe, Kenya. I am honored to get to serve on RH's board with Sarah and a great group of board members.

Five Exceptional NWA People - Tommy and Robyn Van Zandt, Sarah Fennel Buchanan, Jody Dilday and Michael Paladino. Even Stewart Nance and Grace Nance shine in these remarks. And Herbert Buchanan does so much for RH ad Sarah that we may never fully value as we should.

A shout out to one of the best human beings and medical professionals we will ever know, Dr. Scott Bailey:

https://parkhillclinic.com/dr-scott-bailey/

- Around the year 1999, he led the creation of Willow Creek Hospital when no other hospital had private rooms for birthing mothers. Willow Creek did. It was entrepreneurial and he and his partners put a lot at stake to make this happen.

- He worked with Kathy Grisham, distinguishedly retired CEO of Community Clinic and those fine professionals to develop a program where that clinic's patients could get specialized prenatal care thanks to he and his peers of OBGYN's making their time available to serve an underserved population.

- He and his daughter traveled to Africa with Doctors with No Borders to serve the less fortunate. The piece of equipment he and his daughter took with them did not quite work as it required full time electricity to operate. We admire the heart and effort as he resourced it, travelled with it and got it there.

- He led a campaign of NWA donors, alongside the founder and CEO of Restore Humanity, another amazing human being, Sarah Fennel Buchanan, to raise enough money for a new birthing center to be launched in Serumbe, Kenya, where if a mother who had the HIV virus, could get a certain prescribed drug early enough in her pregnancy and with ongoing check-ins, the child would be born without the HIV virus. Hundreds of babies have been successfully birthed here.

And no telling how many other good deeds that we do not know about that his awesome wife Leslie and the children might know about.

He was awarded an Eagle award, similar to Ann Rosso, by the Washington Regional Medical Foundation, I believe for great service and was awarded an Elevate Performance Super Mentor Award in 2016.

While I am at it, thanks to all at the Parkhill Clinic who serve with such distinction, some of whom have retired, like Dr. Duke, but in full force today are some of the best who continue to serve this clinic with a culture that is rare and special (as if I have had a baby there; but I think I know enough to know this is accurate.)

I am not saying you are retiring or anything, Scott, but you are playing the back nine in life and in that regard, all the best to you, your family and this clinic.

Sincerely,

Bachelors III

Tim McFarland
