New launch!

Like many BCBAs, my history of providing supervision to practicum students has included a lot of DIY adventures. Needless to say, it didn't feel very organized, I was never sure if I'd covered all the things, and it made it incredibly difficult to track actual progress (I mean objectively, as we're prone to do in ABA).

So, I started developing, and the Practicum Project curriculum was born. This beauty covers 20 common areas of practice with differentiated instruction. It contains a system of measurement, evaluation, feedback, and progress monitoring.

Who wants a free sample? I'd love feedback on a curriculum I've developed for practicum supervision.

I've taken the practicum adventure and divided down into 20 different projects, all critical to a a functional, independent BCBA. Each project has differentiated levels of instruction (Basic, Moderate, Advanced) with scoring and tracking, all while tying it back to the Task List (V6) and soft skills. The curriculum includes things like Behavior Assessment, FBA and BSP, Writing Treatment Plans, Multidisciplinary Practice, Staff Training, and even a project on direct services called Practical Skills.

About Me:

My name is Dr. Jenelle Bartlett ("Dr. B"). I've been in behavior intervention for almost 15 years and have been a BCBA since 2017. Both my masters and doctorate programs were focused in psychology and behaviorism, which jives with me personally: the science of behavior absolutely drives me!

Clinical Practice: My experience in ABA is fairly vast, if I do say so myself. I've worked with kiddos as young as 2 and adults into their 30s; I've worked in homes, clinics, schools, community locations, and places of employments; served learners with a wide array of diagnoses (and some without); and have practiced and consulted internationally. More recently, I've added into being an adjunct professor in ABA to my resume as well. My happiest places are high intensive behavior, complex-needs learners, working with teens/adults, and consulting with ABA companies on best practices.

Values: What's in a name? Well, for me, a lot! ALTI stands for "assent-led, trauma-informed". These are the primary values on which I orient my practice and trainings, and I ensure these values underlie everything I teach. Learners always have the right to have their voice be heard and have it be honored; to have interventions that align with their preferences, values, and needs.

Approach: Practical! Behavior intervention is a science and can be quite technical at times. I find that removing the veil of technicality by steeping our examples and practice in real, contextually relevant scenarios cements the knowledge and induces confidence in my students

Practicum supervision is tough.

For the student, this is the time of "put the pedal to the metal", where book learning becomes real. Often, they focus so much on the practical skills that they struggle to connect singular skills to behavior intervention as a science, as a craft. So to speak, they see the grain of sand but can't see the ocean is sits in. Then there's the pressure of professionalism, leadership, confidence, interpersonal engagement, ethics... it's a lot!

But the supervisor faces similar challenges! They may have the skill, but have never conceptualized the "how" of teaching it to someone else. The pressure of organizing appropriate learning opportunities, tracking progress objectively, and modeling an entries repertoire is overwhelming. They are often trying to balance this with providing top tier intervention to a full time caseload, too. In this context, supervision is a chore- and not a fun one, either.

Sometimes an external provider is necessary and appropriate. Someone with experience in creating those rich learning opportunities, with a means to direct skill development effectively while keeping their eye on the student's singular skills and their entire skills set as a whole. Maybe it's someone who finds true joy and engagement on crafting the future of the field, who has all the time to answer the questions of curious minds and integrate the knowledge shared into the relevant circles of understanding.

Maybe it's ALTI Behavior! One of my all time favorites in the field of behavior analysis has always been practicum supervision. I enjoy teaching and sharing the science enough that I started work as an adjunct professor in the field in 2023. Inquire for more info with me-- I'd love to chat with you about it!
