Have You Ever Tried to Break Into Your Own Home?
It might sound strange, but have you ever thought about how easy—or difficult—it would be to break into your own house? This simple exercise is one of the best ways to identify weaknesses and improve your home protection plan.
Take a walk around your property and think like someone with bad intentions. Ask yourself:
▪️ Where would you try to get in?
▪️ Are there blind spots?
▪️ Do you have reliable locks, alarms, or cameras?
▪️ Is there a spare key hidden outside? (And how easy is it to find?)
▪️ Are sliding doors or windows properly secured?
▪️ Could someone access the garage and get into the house from there?
▪️ Do I have motion sensor lights or
cameras in vulnerable areas?
▪️ Are there overgrown bushes or trees that provide cover near entry points?
If you can find easy entry points, so can someone else. Weak locks, unsecured windows, poor lighting, and overgrown landscaping are common vulnerabilities that intruders look for. Addressing these areas is the first step toward strengthening your home’s defenses.
The more aware you are of your home’s weak points, the better prepared you’ll be to address them. Home defense isn’t just about tools and technology — it starts with awareness and proactive action. Take the time to identify potential risks, reinforce entry points, and create a safer environment for you and your family.
