Nearly a decade ago, I recognized the challenges Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) providers were facing balancing a growing number of patients with administrative tasks like billing and reimbursement, and staying compliant with ever-changing regulations. I started ABA Therapy Billing and Insurance Services (ABAB) with the goal of helping providers optimize operational efficiency so that they can spend more time doing what they love - helping their patients with . MODIFIERS
✅Modifiers indicate that the service rendered has been altered, but the definition of the code has not changed.
✅Modifiers can affect reimbursement. Providers should review health plan fee schedules for required modifiers based on provider education and level of service.
✅Typical modifiers that may be present on ABA fee schedules:
• HO – BCBA/LBA
• HN – BcaBA/Mid-tier provider with approved education
• HM – RBT/Technician

✅Without the presence of these modifiers in fee schedules and agreement of use from payers, claims will be denied for improper use.

✅There are other medical billing modifiers that may be used on occasion for same service, different location as an example. Communicate closely with the health plan and research payer policies and rules.
