Before satellite technology, seafarers had other means of orienting themselves while out at sea. Though less accurate than modern methods, sailors used to navigate by watching the stars and movement of celestial bodies. If you’ve ever been told to look for the North Star to go north, this was one of the major features in the night sky travelers would use to keep from getting lost.

Eventually, tools were invented to help with this, such as the sextant, which was used to measure the angles between two objects such as the horizon and sun. Knowing these angles would help sailors determine their location during voyages.

The meeting hall building in Van Village, Houaphan Province, Laos is going up quickly! When it is finished, our builder, Mr. Tui, and his team will begin work on constructing the library. Children will use these buildings from over 24 remote mountain villages. Over half of these students are girls.

Aqua Survey has done a lot of work in Laos, but it is also a beautiful country to visit as a tourist! ✈️

Laos was listed as one of the best places to visit in 2023 by National Geographic. It is expected to be less crowded than many other tourist destinations, making it a great place to explore for those looking to travel again. Check out the article!

The fundraising is now complete to build a Meeting Hall and a Library for the high school in Van Village in the incredibly impoverished Houaphan Province, northeastern Laos. Here are photos of the ground-breaking for the library. About half of the nearly 300 students are female. The high school is a regional high school where students come from over 24 different villages.

Attached is an article addressing girls, underage marriage, and the role of education in Houaphan Province and other regions of Laos. It’s a worthwhile read.

Stockton Presbyterian Church, in collaboration with Aqua Survey, Inc. have completed two elementary schools and soon, a high school. I appreciate all of you that have helped financially and with countless other acts of kindness.
