The primary question that needs answered first is what kind of pond do you want. A pond can be non-existent as in the case of a "pondless waterfall". It can take the form of a "watergarden" in which the pond is less than 3 ft. These fully rocked in ponds are very natural in appearance while being relatively low maintenance. A "Koi Pond" incorporates advanced filtration techniques to attain and maintain a healthy environment where these beautiful fish can reach their full genetic potential. A deeper pond with a true bottom drain and a gravity fed filter is the foundation. Multiple chamber vortex filters, pressurized bio-mechanical filters, ultraviolet clarifiers, high quality external pumps, fluidized bed bio-reactors and supplemental aeration are some examples of things that go into advanced filtration.
