Key Maintenance Tips for Your Clothes Dryer:

- Clean the Exhaust Vent
It’s crucial to keep your dryer’s exhaust vent clean. We recommend cleaning it at least once a year to prevent lint buildup, which can lead to reduced efficiency and potential fire hazards. Don’t forget to check the outside air vent as well to ensure proper airflow.

- Ensure the Dryer is Level
A dryer that is not level can cause unnecessary strain on its components, leading to quicker wear and tear. If you notice your dryer tilting or making unusual noises, it may be time to adjust its position for optimal operation.

- Regular Maintenance
Engaging in simple maintenance tasks can save you money in the long run. A clean, well-maintained dryer can operate efficiently for years, reducing the likelihood of needing repairs.

When to Repair or Replace:
Despite your best efforts in maintenance, all appliances will eventually wear out. If you encounter issues with your dryer, it’s important to assess whether it’s more cost-effective to repair or replace it. For guidance on making this decision,

Tips to Keep Your Washer Running Like New!

Top-loading washers require little home maintenance, but front-loading washers need more care.

Leave The Door Open!
It’s a good idea to leave your washer door open after you’ve completed a load of laundry. This will allow air to circulate in the washer, rather than trapping in moisture, which can lead to mold and mildew problems. Use a cleaner designed for washing machines once per month, such as Affresh tablets. Make sure you are checking the door’s rubber gasket (called a bellow) to make sure it’s clean and intact.

Don’t Overload It!
Overloading the washer can wear out and break some of the machine’s components more quickly than with typical usage. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maximum capacity so your washer will last longer. That goes for dryers, too.

Keep Your Dishwasher Clean To Keep It Running At It's Best!

Most new dishwashers use a filter system that traps food particles during the wash cycle. Check and clean the filter regularly to prevent a buildup of food, pits, seeds and anything else that might get trapped there.

Hard water is tough on dishwashers as mineral deposits (as well as bits of food or other matter) can build up in the water holes in the dishwasher’s spray arm. For general cleaning, use a dishwasher cleaner such as Affresh to help remove some of the hard water deposits. Also, the water inlet valve can begin to clog, which means your dishwasher won’t get the proper amount of hot water. You’ll need to replace a clogged water inlet valve.

Easy Cleaning and Preventive Maintenance to Make Your Appliances Last!

The best way to maintain your refrigerator is simply to keep it clean, inside and out.

1. Clean under and behind your refrigerator regularly. The coils at the bottom or behind your refrigerator need regular cleaning so the coils can efficiently cool the unit.

2. Wash the door seals. If the seals in your refrigerator door are sticky, it’s time to clean them. Warm, soapy water and a soft cloth will do the trick. Applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the seals will make them last longer.

3. If your refrigerator has a built-in ice/water dispenser, you’ll need to clean that, too. The drip tray should be removed and cleaned at least every two to three months. Cleaning the ice bucket assembly once a month so your ice doesn’t pick up refrigerator odors. The dispenser’s water filter should be replaced at least every six months.

Pull out the sweaters and stock up on the pumpkin spice goodies because it's FALL!

Another part of your fall routine should be appliance maintenance. Allstate Insurance recommends the following:

Check Behind the Refrigerator
All our major kitchen appliances get additional use during the winter as we tend to stay in more and cook larger, heartier meals. Start your kitchen fall home maintenance checklist with the primary appliance: the refrigerator.

Pull your refrigerator away from the wall, vacuum out the coils and clean them to help the heat transfer process. Inspect your fridge for any hose cracks or water leaks, and call Kearsley Appliance to fix them if necessary.

This is a good opportunity to get your vacuum into the space behind and underneath the fridge as well, cleaning up any dust, debris, and cobwebs from this area.

Oven & Stove Checkup
The oven is another one of those tricky appliances that can look like it’s functioning just fine until it isn’t, and should be part of your fall maintenance checklist. Cleaning the stovetop and oven with oven cleaner gives you a chance to inspect your unit for any signs of damage or fatigue. Look for loose fittings, squeaky doors, or cracks, and replace those parts if needed.

Clear Lint From the Dryer
The lint trap isn’t the only place that lint rests in a dryer cycle after cycle. The average family of three or four people often runs between eight to 10 loads of laundry each week, which results in a lot of lint going through the system. When lint escapes the filter, it eventually builds up within the dryer itself and inside the exhaust ducting. After too long, it can become a fire hazard as it causes the dryer to overheat.

Use the change of seasons as your reminder to inspect the exhaust hoses and clean them out. Use a dryer cleaner kit to deep-clean your unit. Also remember to pull your dryer away from the wall, disconnect the ductwork, and clean any lint out of that section as well.

If your gas stove burner will not ignite, a likely reason is spilled food or grime build up. Use a toothbrush to clean off food spills from the igniter. On an electronic ignition stove, it's a little ceramic nub located either on the stovetop or under the ceramic seal strike plate. Also, make sure that the round ceramic seal strike plate is properly seated on the burner and all small holes are clear. You can use a needle to clear out the small holes and/or crevices.
