NewsdayTV’s Virginia Huie reports that Suffolk leads NY in traffic deaths. Alcohol and drug use, road design and enforcement are among possible reasons.

There were 143 fatal crashes in Suffolk in 2023 — more than double Nassau's total — and the county has led the state in total traffic deaths for at least a decade.

We are seeking full-time experienced and motivated career-driven supervisors to join our team at JFK International Airport, Terminal 4.
The Field Supervisor is a working supervisor and serves as the primary, on-site liaison between SSPTMS and the client. The Supervisor reports to the Account Manager and General Manager and is responsible for ensuring the work site is operated in a manner consistent with all standards, while maintaining strong working relationships with SSPTMS, our employees, and the client. For consideration, candidates MUST meet the following qualifications:
Have a proven track record of progressive supervisory experience in the fields of traffic management, airport security, law enforcement, or the military (3+ years required).
Must be self-motivated, with a desire to lead from the front.
Excellent active listening and verbal/written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, de-escalation skills, and report writing skills.
Licensed NYS Security Guard. Flagger, OSHA-30, and SST certifications within sixty (60) days of hire.
Be available to work at least one (1) weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
Be available to work morning (0600 x 1800) or overnight (1800 x 0600) tours.
Field Supervisor Job Description:
Facilitate the smooth, secure flow of traffic on airport roadways.
Understand and apply safe traffic control practices, leading by example.
Provide shift oversight and direction to all subordinates to meet the standards established by the client and the policy and procedural requirements established by SSPTMS.
Provide a staffing report before the start and at the end of each tour.
Prepare detailed incident reports and ensure incidents are adjudicated correctly with proper notification.
Respond to all unusual occurrences; execute emergency response plans when necessary.
Mentor and assess personnel and make recommendations to management.
Audit and inspect subordinates and site conditions and provide feedback.
Recognize and employ feedback provided by client ensuring that contract compliance measures are being met.
Work alongside law/traffic enforcement officers and other traffic control mechanisms in the area.
Maintain frequent and positive contact with SSPTMS personnel, clients, and public.
Skills Required:
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Active listening skills.
Ability to assess and evaluate situations in a timely and effective manner.
Ability to apply critical thinking skills.
Attention to detail.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be fluent in English.
Must have strong report writing skills with special attention to grammar, spelling and usage.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Valid NY/NJ Driver License (mandatory).
The Field Supervisor is a full-time, non-exempt position.
