The Black River has a story to tell. Come hear it this September.

Black River Discovery Days is a free, informal community gathering happening September 2 and 3, 2026 at three locations across Williamsburg, Georgetown, and Andrews counties. Stop by to learn about the new Black River State Park, hear updates on the emerging Black River Water Trail, and meet the park rangers and community partners working to protect it. Grab maps, resources, and river recreation tips. Light refreshments and raffle prizes at each stop.

All three stops are free. Everyone is welcome. Choose the location that works for you.

Come see us at the Florence Center for the P*e Dee Outdoor Classic. Enjoy all kinds of activities such as the Dock Dogs, retriever demonstrations and wildlife exhibits. The show runs until 6pm today and 10am-5pm tomorrow.

Exciting day for Florence County formally adopting a Conservation Vision plan to protect 30% of the county through voluntary public purchases of land and private landowners entering into conservation easements! P*e Dee Land Trust is a proud partner to protect our past and ensure the future of our natural, agricultural, historical and cultural resources before they are paved over.

Florence County Council voted Thursday to approve a long-term land conservation plan designed to protect farmland, forests, waterways and other natural resource

We are so proud to celebrate our very own Shannon Copes, Director of Outreach at P*e Dee Land Trust, on being named the 2025-2026 Rotarian of the Year by the Rotary Club of Florence!

Shannon was honored by Outgoing President Travis Blayton for her years of dedicated service and her gift for bringing families and community members together around a shared mission. She first joined the club in 1998 and has served in so many meaningful ways since then, from organizing Christmas Shopping for Kids and Salvation Army Bell Ringing to currently serving on the Board of Directors.

The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self" and Shannon lives that every single day. This honor is so well deserved. Congratulations, Shannon!

Happy 27th Anniversary! Since August 1999, P*e Dee Land Trust has been working with landowner to permanently protect the significant conservation resources on their land from development. To date, PDLT has protected 124 properties across the P*e Dee Watershed totaling 53,525 acres. Additionally, PDLT has supported public land acquisitions in partnership with SCDNR, SC Forestry Commission, SC Parks, US Fish & Wildlife Service, along with County and Municipal low impact parks.

A special thank you to all of our conservation easement landowners and supporters - without you we would not be able to continue our mission to protect the past and ensure the future of the P*e Dee Watershed!

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at P*e Dee Land Trust. This holiday, we are grateful for the beautiful land we get to call home. From the rivers to the fields to the forests, there is so much worth celebrating and protecting. Enjoy the day with the people and places you love.

Witherspoon Island sits on the Great P*e Dee River in Darlington County and spans over 3,700 acres of protected land. It is one of the most significant conservation projects in the region and a reminder of what becomes possible when a community decides to protect what it has.

PDLT lost a beloved family member on April 20th with the passing of Kenneth Lupo. Kenneth’s wife, Farris, joined our PDLT staff in 2021 and like with all of our staff members, her husband, Kenneth, and two sons, Baze and Kash quickly became an intricate part of our PDLT family. Kenneth had an infectious grin, easy-going demeanor and a deep southern drawl that made anyone who met him smile. He had a true heart of gold, never met a stranger, and was always the first to lend a helping hand. From parking cars at PDLT fundraisers, fixing things around the office, feeding staff while working late nights in preparation for events, to helping out with a construction project at a staff member’s house, Kenneth was always the first to volunteer to help do whatever needed to be done to support PDLT and all of our staff. We often teased him that he was our best “paid” volunteer, as he loved the cookies from our fundraisers and we always sent him home with a container full!

Please Save-the-Date – June 2nd, 10:30am-3pm, for ‘A Meal that Means More - LUPO Chicken Bog’, at Holt Bros BBQ, 2081 W Evans St, Florence. The Holt Bros BBQ family is most generously donating 100% of proceeds to help Farris and her sons navigate life without him.
