Some shipments are more than just products. Sometimes, they’re a critical part of someone’s entire operation.

This custom crate was built for a customer who needed to ship a large piece of their manufacturing equipment. When you’re dealing with something this size and this important, the packaging around it matters just as much as the transportation itself.

That piece of equipment is part of how our customer runs their business, serves their customers, and keeps production moving. Protecting it properly during shipment isn’t just about avoiding damage, it’s about protecting their time, their investment, and their ability to operate.

At Shoals Box & Pallet, we have the capability to build custom crating solutions for everything from smaller components to extremely large, heavy, and unique items like this one.

We enjoy the challenge of taking something that doesn’t fit into a “standard” packaging solution and building around exactly what the customer needs.

The cheapest material isn’t always the lowest-cost material.

In manufacturing, an on-time delivery can be worth far more than a few cents saved on the purchase price.

A famous example came in 1997, when a fire disrupted the supply of a small brake component used by Toyota. With very little inventory on hand, the missing part forced production lines to shut down. Toyota ultimately lost production of approximately 70,000 vehicles, with researchers estimating ¥20–30 billion in unavoidable losses related to the disruption.

All because one necessary component wasn’t available when production needed it.

Most supply disruptions aren’t nearly that dramatic, but the principle is the same.

A load of pallets that doesn’t arrive.
A box order that’s a few days late.
Stretch film that isn’t there when production needs it.

Suddenly, the cost isn’t just the material.

It’s downtime.
It’s employees waiting.
It’s expedited freight.
It’s missed production.
It’s explaining the delay to your customer.

That’s why choosing a packaging supplier should involve more than comparing the number at the bottom of a quote.

At Shoals Box & Pallet, we believe reliability matters. Communication matters. And doing what we say we’re going to do matters.

Because when your production depends on us, our delivery date becomes your delivery date.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Shoals Box & Pallet!

This year marks a very special milestone as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence. The 4th of July is more than fireworks, cookouts, and time away from work. It is a day to reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices made by those who came before us, and the responsibility we all share in honoring and preserving those blessings.

In observance of Independence Day, Shoals Box & Pallet will be closed today so our team can spend time with their families, friends, and loved ones.

We are thankful for the opportunity to live, work, and serve in this great country, and we hope everyone has a safe, joyful, and meaningful holiday.

Happy 4th of July!

Not all stretch film is created equal.

Gauge, width, and roll length all play a role in how well a pallet is secured, but gauge alone does not tell the full story. Film type, load shape, puncture resistance, pre-stretch, containment needs, and application method can all impact performance.

In general, lighter gauges like 60 or 70 are commonly used for smaller, more uniform loads, while 80 gauge is a versatile option for many standard pallet loads. For heavier, sharper, or less stable loads, 90 gauge may provide added strength and support.

Width matters because it affects coverage and control. A narrower roll can be easier to handle, while a wider roll can cover more surface area with each pass.

Roll length is another factor that is easy to overlook. A longer roll can mean fewer roll changes, less downtime, and more pallets wrapped before stopping.

The best stretch film depends on the load, the application, and the way it is being wrapped. That’s why we’re always eager to make sure our customers are using the right film for their specific needs.

Not every shipment requires a brand-new pallet.

For many businesses, recycled pallets are a smart option because they can offer cost savings, quick availability, and reliable performance for everyday shipping, storage, warehouse movement, and one-way loads.

At Shoals Box & Pallet, we keep both Grade A and Grade B pallets available to help customers find the right fit for their needs.

Grade A pallets are typically cleaner, stronger, and in better overall condition.
Grade B pallets may show more wear, but they are often a very practical and cost-effective option.

Used pallet inventory naturally goes up and down because it depends on what is coming back into circulation. We receive used pallets through customer pickups, local businesses with unwanted pallets, community partnerships, and pallets that can be repaired and reused.

As a pallet manufacturer, we work hard to keep enough inventory on our yard so we can quickly take care of our customers when the need comes up.

Recycled pallets help reduce costs, keep usable material in circulation, and support a more efficient packaging supply chain.

Today is National Forklift Safety Day, and at Shoals Box & Pallet, it is a meaningful reminder of how important safety is to everyone connected to our daily operation.

Forklifts play a major role in what we do each day. Whether we are receiving lumber from our suppliers, moving materials through production, transporting finished pallets, or loading trucks for our customers, safe forklift operation is part of nearly every step.

That is why proper training, awareness, and responsibility matter so much. Every team member trained to operate a forklift plays an important role in protecting not only themselves, but also their coworkers, our visitors, our suppliers, our customers, and everyone who depends on a safe and efficient operation.

We are thankful for the team members who take that responsibility seriously each day. Their focus and care help keep our workplace running smoothly, allow us to better serve our customers, and help ensure that everyone goes home safely.

Safety is more than a requirement. It is one of the ways we take care of our people, our partners, and the trust placed in us to do the job right.

June is National Safety Month, and for us at Shoals Box & Pallet, safety starts with our people.

Every pallet built, every box handled, every load wrapped, and every truck loaded involves real people who are working hard to serve our customers well. That is why safety matters so much to us.

We are grateful for the safety records our team continues to build, and we never want to take that for granted. Safe work does not happen by accident. It takes focus, consistency, teamwork, and a company-wide commitment to doing things the right way.

At Shoals Box & Pallet, we believe safety should be recognized and encouraged. That is why we have safety bonuses in place for our team, because when our people work safely, everyone benefits. Our employees are protected, our customers are served better, and our operation runs stronger.

Packaging specs still matter, too. Pallets built to the right standard, boxes made to the correct dimensions and board grade, and stretch film used properly all help prevent unstable loads, damaged product, delays, and unsafe handling conditions.

But at the heart of it all are the people.

We are thankful for our team and the care they put into their work every day.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is something we should never take lightly, and we are deeply grateful for the freedoms we enjoy because of their courage.

As we spend time with family, friends, and loved ones this weekend, may we also take time to reflect on the true meaning of this day. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the selfless service of those who gave everything.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13

In acknowledgement of this special day, our office will be closed on Memorial Day. We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful weekend as we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The right box does more than hold a product. It protects your time, your inventory, and your bottom line.

When corrugated packaging is properly sized and built for the job, it can help reduce damage, wasted space, unnecessary filler, and shipping headaches.

Whether it’s a standard RSC, a custom box, pads, partitions, die-cuts, or corrugated sheets, having the right packaging in place makes a real difference in day-to-day operations.

At Shoals Box & Pallet, we work with customers to find corrugated solutions that fit their products, their processes, and their needs.

As a local packaging partner, we’re here to help keep your operation moving with reliable service, practical solutions, and packaging that’s ready when you need it.

For nearly 20 years, our branded trailer has sat outside our building as a familiar part of the landscape here at Shoals Box & Pallet.

This week, we moved it.

Honestly, we needed the space. And that’s a good problem to have.

To some, moving a trailer may seem like a small thing. But for a growing company, simple changes can represent something much bigger. Growth is a great thing, but it also requires us to take a hard look at what we need, what we use, and how we can make the best use of the space and resources we have.

Progress doesn’t always show up in big, flashy moments. Sometimes it looks like moving something that’s been in the same place for decades so we can make room for what’s next.

We’re grateful for where we’ve been, thankful for the growth we’re experiencing, and excited for where we’re going.
