Edward Emmet Hagins Obituary
On March 8, 2023, we lost Edward Emmet Hagins at the age of 71 in Columbia, SC, due to injuries from a car accident. Edward was the ultimate Salesman/Magician/Auctioneer.
Ed is survived by his brother Marshall Hagins (Kay); his wife, Denise Hagins; his #1 daughter, Penny Pace (Daryl), his favorite daughter, Crystal Wade (Bradley); and his grandchildren, Justin Miller (Kaela), Joey Scalf, Elizabeth Scalf, Miranda Hagins, Noah Wade, and Jonah Wade.
Ed was born in Columbia, SC on August 4, 1951 to Robert and Dorothy Hagins. On June 6, 1970, he married Denise Cope. He began working as a pitchman selling everything from magazines, encyclopedias, and Ginsu knives (which will cut through ham, spam, chicken, and lamb). On August 4, 1973 and August 1, 1975, he welcomed his two beautiful daughters.
Ed devoted most of his life as an Auctioneer and Prestidigitator. He entertained countless royalty: kings, queens, and every card in a deck. His mesmerizing, hypnotic voice could be heard all the way from Carnegie Hall to Bourbon Street and on to Venice Beach until he finally threw in all of his cards in Myrtle Beach. Ed was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians. His pockets were always inhabited by a card deck and coins awaiting their next impromptu performance to any unsuspecting spectator. Ed never met a stranger, only potential buyers. Whether he was on a cruise or just getting gas, he’d strike up a sale or show.
In order to honor Ed, I urge you all to go out and do something in his honor. Experience what it’s like to live freely as he did by embarrassing your grandchild with terrible hip slang, gathering your family to teach them a magic trick, or talking to a stranger about your newest business venture.
