IMPORTANT NOTICE TO FLORISSANT FIRE DISTRICT RESIDENTS

Earlier this year, our department underwent an ISO evaluation. We are pleased to announce that the Florissant Fire District has received an ISO Class 4 rating.

The Insurance Services Office’s Public Protection Classification program rates communities on a scale from 1 to 10, with Class 1 being the highest possible rating.

Florissant Fire Protection District will now hold one of the best ratings in the region for a volunteer fire department.

A Class 4 rating reflects a good level of fire protection. The ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule evaluates four key areas:

Emergency Communications: The quality of 911 and dispatch systems.

Water Supply: The availability and adequacy of fire hydrants and other water sources.

Fire Department Resources: Staffing levels, training, and firefighter experience.

Community Risk Reduction: Programs focused on fire prevention and safety.

Homeowners insurance companies may use PPC ratings when determining premiums. A lower rating generally indicates a lower risk of severe fire damage and may lead to more favorable insurance costs than a higher-numbered rating.

A big thank-you goes to our volunteers, who have contributed thousands of hours over the last couple of years to help achieve this new rating.

I would also like to thank the fire board for its continued support of my vision for the district and its residents.

This new rating will take effect on September 1, 2026.

Fire Chief John Buchan
