What is energy sovereignty? ☀️

Energy sovereignty means communities having control over how their energy is produced, owned, and used. It’s about local decision-making, long-term resilience, and energy systems that align with a community’s values and priorities.

For many Indigenous communities and mission-driven organizations, energy sovereignty supports self-determination while reducing reliance on outside utilities and rising energy costs. Solar can be a powerful tool in building that independence.

Clean energy isn’t just about where power comes from. It’s about who controls it.

The best projects don’t happen alone. 🤝

They’re built through partnership — faith leaders, Tribal leaders, nonprofit teams, financing partners, and the people on the ground doing the work. When everyone’s aligned on mission, the project follows.

Grateful to our partners at RE-volv and California Interfaith Power & Light — and to every community making thoughtful, long-term energy decisions with care.

Stability you can budget on.

Energy costs are rising. Since 2022, average electricity rates have climbed about 13% nationally (per the U.S. Energy Information Administration) and more than 40% for California’s largest utilities (per the California Public Advocates Office).

For mission-driven organizations, that kind of volatility shows up in the programs your budget is supposed to fund. 📈

Solar locks in predictability — protecting the mission, strengthening long-term planning, and investing in lasting impact.

Solar isn’t just about savings. It’s about securing your mission for the long run. ☀️

There is something quietly powerful about turning toward the sun — toward what gives without asking, what sustains without division. ☀️

On April 11, we joined URI North America for “The Generosity of the Sun,” a gathering hosted with Chairwoman Missty Slater of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska. Faith leaders, Tribal leaders, and partners came together to talk about what a long-term energy strategy looks like when it’s rooted in mission, sovereignty, and stewardship.

Grateful for the conversation — and for the communities doing this work with care.

A celebration 175 years in the making. ☀️

On April 19, we had the honor of joining Trinity St. Peter’s Episcopal Church — the oldest Episcopal congregation on the Pacific Coast — as they commissioned their new 19.74 kW solar array.

The system is projected to save the church more than $261,000 in lifetime energy costs, reinvested directly into food programs, neighborhood cleanups, and the ministries that keep this historic community serving San Francisco.

A deep thank you to our partners -volv and Interfaith Power & Light, and to the Trinity St. Peter’s community for showing what mission-aligned energy looks like.

The best projects don’t happen in isolation. They come from collaboration — between organizations, communities, and partners who are aligned on the outcome.

We’ve had the opportunity to work alongside:
• Nonprofits and faith communities
• Tribal organizations
• Community leaders and stakeholders

And one thing is consistent: When energy decisions are made collaboratively, the impact goes further.

If we’ve worked together on a project, we’d love to hear your experience — or see how it’s being shared in your community. Partnerships are how this work grows.

Solar incentives have played a major role in making projects more accessible for nonprofits and faith communities — but that landscape is changing.

Join us for a Lunch & Learn at Westminster Presbyterian Church as we walk through what the upcoming end of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) means, and how organizations can begin planning thoughtfully for what comes next.

Led by Rev. Casey Tinnin, this session will offer practical insight into energy costs, available options, and how to evaluate whether solar aligns with your organization’s goals — without pressure.

Lunch will be provided, and there will be time for questions and discussion.

One of the biggest misconceptions about solar is that it requires a big commitment upfront. In reality, the first step is much simpler.

For most organizations, the process starts with understanding:

• How much energy you’re currently using
• What your long-term costs look like
• What options are available (not just one path)

From there, it’s about exploring whether solar aligns with your goals — financially and operationally. No pressure. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just a clearer picture of what’s possible.

As the energy landscape shifts, we’re seeing a clear pattern: Organizations aren’t rushing — they’re preparing. Across nonprofits, faith communities, and Tribal organizations, the focus right now is on:

• Understanding long-term energy costs
• Exploring solar and storage options
• Evaluating projects before key deadlines approach
• Creating flexibility in how and when decisions are made

The goal isn’t to act fast. It’s to act intentionally. The organizations that take time to understand their options today are the ones with the most control tomorrow.
