Great. What’s happened since then?

Performance management shouldn’t be one conversation a year. Regular check-ins give employees a chance to talk about goals, get meaningful feedback, address challenges and identify opportunities to grow.

If the last real conversation about performance happened months ago, now is a good time to reconnect.

Did you know?

An employee doesn't have to use the words "reasonable accommodation" to trigger your legal obligations.

A simple conversation about a medical condition or disability may be enough to require an employer to begin the interactive process.

The key is recognizing the request, engaging in a timely conversation, and documenting each step. Waiting for a formal request can expose your organization to unnecessary legal risk.

From celebrating this year's incredible honorees to catching up with clients, meeting new faces, and sharing conversations about all things California HR, it was a day full of inspiration and meaningful connections.

California’s 2027 minimum wage is official and for employers, $17.40 an hour is only the beginning.

Starting January 1, 2027, the statewide minimum wage increases to $17.40 per hour for most non-exempt employees. That also pushes the minimum salary threshold for many exempt employees to $72,384 per year, and remember, meeting the salary threshold alone isn’t enough. The duties test still matters.

And because this is California...there may be another layer. Employers also need to consider local city and county minimum wages, industry-specific requirements for healthcare and fast food, and special rules covering certain physicians, computer professionals and outside sales employees.
