The River City Communications team closed out 2022 with another development project being approved. Its community outreach strategies proved effective, leading to a Rocklin mixed-use project being approved by the Rocklin City Council last month. It was a real pleasure working with an extraordinary entitlement team!

College Park in Rocklin is designed to be an integrated development with a mix of retail, commercial, office, residential uses, parks and trails.

A BIG 2022 win for the River City Communications team was the approval of an amended reclamation plan for CEMEX's Clayton Quarry. An effective community relations plan led the county planning commission to approve the project unanimously. Today, the quarry continues to be a leading provider of construction aggregate in the greater Bay Area.

The Clayton Quarry has been part of your community for over 70 years and we are pleased to announce some exciting changes.

A member of the American Waterways Operators writes, "If the Newsom Administration is to achieve its zero-emission goals without causing serious disruption to America’s supply chain and increasing inflationary pressures, this is the year for the State Legislature to make sure the Governor’s budget sufficiently funds lower emission engine programs and earmarks funds specifically for harbor crafts. Anything short of this will reduce the inventory of operating tugboats, placing America’s supply chain at serious risk the next time large cargo ships wait in our Nation’s largest ports for harbor escorts."

Americans became aware of our nation’s supply chain problem when they witnessed a hundred cargo ships anchored off the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles…

This past week, the Industrial Environmental Association announced that the Sportfishing Association of California will be recognized at their 38th Annual Environmental Conference.

An Environmental Excellence Award will be presented to the "Sportfishing Association of California for their successful 2-year effort working with the California Air Resources Board to modify CARB’s requirements for new engine technologies that currently do not exist for small vessels. With the livelihoods of numerous family-owned businesses at stake, the Association launched an all-out campaign to reach out to City Councils and Chambers of Commerce up and down California’s coast. They collected the most up-to-date data on fishing boat operations and documented the availability of engine technologies required by the proposed regulation. The information was presented to CARB staff which traveled to San Diego to observe the situation first-hand. The result was a compromise approved by CARB for engine modifications that are currently available for this vessel type."

River City Communications was pleased to be of service to SAC. The campaign was covered in every major media market and earned the support of over 60 local, state and national business and trade organizations, and over 23,000 anglers! The campaign demonstrated that Californians have a voice in the political process and they can influence the outcome of public policy.

One of River City Communication's clients prevailed at recent CARB hearing when regulators proposed alternative regulations that consider economic feasibility and the availability of technology. With this news, California's commercial passenger sportfishing fleet can continue to provide anglers access to the sea!

The Los Angeles Daily News reported that, "Californians — especially those who live around major ports — will be breathing easier thanks to aggressive regulations approved Thursday, March 24, for tugs, ferries, sportfishing vessels and whale-watching boats.

But some say the regulations are too costly and slated to take effect too quickly. Tug operators said the strict rules could put some of them out of business, bringing new interruptions to supply chains. And a representative of Catalina Island’s tourism bureau expressed concerns about the possible impact on ferry service."

The change will help coastal health risks, but tug operators warn it could put them out of business.

The Mendocino Railway makes the case for an ambitious waterfront land-use project in today's Fort Bragg Advocate saying, "There is also a real opportunity to transition the community from one that was once dependent on one major employer for jobs and tax revenue to another that is economically diverse and sustainable. While portions of the property will build upon the area’s strong and vibrant hospitality and tourism industry, it has even greater potential to attract high-paying jobs in the areas of technology, green energy, and medical/healthcare."

Favorable press coverage can drive up customer foot traffic and draw new tenants to your place of business.

"I think this is attributed to the amount of people out holiday shopping more so this year since Covid affected people being able to go out last year," Wong said. "I also believe that the Palladio shopping center is one of the premium shopping centers that we have in the Sacramento area, so I feel that a lot of people not from the area are traveling to the city of Folsom for an elevated shopping experience."

"Mall-wide sales are up 25% over last year and traffic is up 50% since the movie theaters are open when this time last year they were not."

The key to winning strategies is often defining the client's business interests as a public interest. As California's commercial passenger boat industry faces economically unfeasible state regulations, the state's tourism and hospitality industry is also threatened.

California’s Air Board has fired a warning shot across the bow of California’s billion-dollar commercial sport fishing and whale watching businesses.
