Fall sun satellite outages are expected to run from approximately September 28th to October 12th.
During the spring and fall of each year, you may experience some degree of television interference due to a phenomenon known as “sun outages.” At these times, the sun’s low path in the sky takes it directly behind a communication satellite that transmits signals to a station on earth. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to prevent the sun from interfering with your live TV viewing. The outages should last no longer than 15 minutes per day.
During the day from about 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. is the most common time for fall sun outages to occur. A sun outage can last for several minutes, during which time TV signal’s may experience interference with picture and/or sound quality. Typically, sun outages last anywhere from 2 minutes to almost 11 minutes. The channels affected depend on which satellites are being impacted by the solar radiation and what channels NEP receives from those satellites. Sun outages do not affect Internet or telephone service.
