This is one of the first plates I carved for Jo Sonja. It was turned by Paul Loftness. It is as stunning as it was 30 years ago!
Biblical stories have been a very popular theme for folk artists historically and a love that I have always shared. This plate is just one of the many versions I’ve done of Adam & Eve. My first published painting with Adam & Eve appeared in the 1970’s with “An Expression of Joy”.
This rendition relates the story from creation to temptation and finally expulsion from the Garden of Eden by the angel with the burning sword. Scenes are separated by stylized Hallingdal Tulips and finished with an apple tree border. The plate first appeared as one of the Christmas plates in the Artist Journal magazine and I was honored to have it chosen later as the front cover of the book published by the National Museum of Decorative Painting.
