Hey mamas!

Have you started compiling items onto your baby registry? Just wanted to remind you that you can add whatever you want on there! Don’t hesitate just because some items are on the expensive side. When you share it with people, they’ll buy or contribute to what they can afford.

Need more than one car seat? Add them.
Want that fancy crib? Add it.
Diaper fund? Put it on there.

Bottom line is it’s your registry and it’s your baby so add what you want. 😉

Y’all!
One time I mentioned to someone that I am a postpartum doula, and they responded with, “Oh like a maid?” No!

Not trying to discredit the work of maids or house cleaners, but a postpartum doula is not the same thing.

Yes, we can help with cooking. Yes we can help with cleaning. Yes we can help with organizing. But we provide so much value and insight into infant care, feeding, postpartum healing, and the emotional toll some mothers experience after birth. A postpartum doula can be an essential part of your postpartum journey.

Hey mama!
Hopefully you are seeing this while you are still pregnant. It’s super important to prepare your postpartum period ahead of time, so that after baby is here, you can rest, heal, and bond. Here are some items to cross off of your to do list.

🌸If you’re planning on having a vaginal birth, padsicles are a great item to make yourself ahead of time and stick in your freezer. You’ll need overnight pads, aloe Vera gel, and witch hazel. There are lots of videos that show you how to assemble the padsicles.

🌸Do some meal prepping and store in gallon size freezer bags. That way, whoever is cooking dinner can just pull out the freezer bag and start cooking the meal. It also works great for crockpot meals.

🌸Figure out who your village will be to provide support during your transition into motherhood. Your parents? Neighbors? Best friends? Sisters? Will you have a postpartum doula?

🌸Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, you’ll want to have stations set up in your home. It’ll make it easier for you to access what you need at a moments notice. Especially wipes, diapers, and extra clothes.

🌸Make sure you are knowledgeable about how you’ll be feeding your baby and what your options are. If formula feeding, do you know which type you’ll use? How to mix it? Or are you doing the premade bottles? For breastfeeding, have you done it before? Did you take any breastfeeding classes? Do you have access to a lactation professional for assistance?

Hey mama!
You made it to your third trimester! You are in the home stretch now! You may be hustling and bustling to get last minute things accomplished before the baby gets here, and here are some reminders for your to do list.

🌸If possible, go on a physical tour of the place where you will be giving birth. This gives you some insight into the birth space, and it’ll give you a chance to answer questions you may have. This also may serve as an opportunity for you to choose another location if you’re not feeling it.

🌸Go ahead and finalize your birth plan and the options you have available to you. You can ask if your doula creates birth plans (I do😉) for you to print out, or you can create one yourself. Share it with your health care provider to make sure they are aware of your birth preferences. Make sure your doula and partner understand what you’d like to happen as well.

🌸If you plan on breastfeeding, make sure you order your breast pump. Most insurance companies will cover a breast pump, you just have to ask which ones are covered. Or you can purchase your own. Remember to research the type of pump you think will work best for you and your lifestyle.

🌸Research and choose a pediatrician for your baby. You’ll want to contact them to let them know when you are due. You may even want to go an physically see the office (or at least see how the drive is) before making a final decision. Try to get a pediatrician who aligns with your values.

🌸Make sure you are ready for your postpartum phase. Not quite sure how? See my next post, OR read below to purchase a digital download I created to help you prepare for your postpartum stage.

Hey mama!
Congratulations on making it to your second trimester! You may be feeling a bit more like yourself, eating better, and you may have even told people that you are expecting. Here are some things to cross off of your to do list between now and week 27.

🌸Start making your baby registry and sharing it with friends, family, coworkers, etc. Don’t worry if some of the items on your registry seem too expensive. Just share it and people will buy what they can!

🌸 Interview and hire a doula! Remember that this is an important process and you really want to feel good about who you are allowing into your space for your pregnancy and birth.

🌸Start to think about your “ideal” birth and what options you’d like to do more research about. Medication? Home birth? Laboring at home? Having your spouse cut the cord?

🌸Start to research WHERE you’d like to give birth. Again, choose the option that feels best for YOU, since it’s your birth. Home birth? Hospital birth? Birth center?

🌸Take a child birth education class to gain all of the necessary knowledge surrounding labor, birth, and infant care. Depending on who your doula is, they may be able to provide you this information instead of taking a separate class.

Hey mama!
Welcome to your first trimester! You may be feeling very tired, lacking energy, trying to figure out what you are able to eat, and navigating through your emotions of this pregnancy. Here are some things to consider accomplishing between now and week 13.

🌸Prenatal Vitamins- these are essential to take throughout your pregnancy as they provide you and baby with necessary nutrients that you may not be receiving by through your diet. There are so many different types of prenatal vitamins out there. You can find them in grocery stores, drugstores, online, etc. Do your research to see which is best for your body and reach out to your healthcare provider for help and suggestions.

🌸Choose your healthcare provider- OBGYN? Midwife? It’s up to you. Just do your research and make sure that whoever you choose fits with your values and listens to your concerns. You can always find someone else if you don’t like who you currently have. It’s never too late!

🌸The first trimester can be very uncomfortable, so it’s important to figure out what brings you comfort. A bath? Certain scents? Favorite movies? A gentle massage?

🌸Look up the maternity leave policy for your place of work. I know this seems far away, but it’ll go by faster than you think and you need to know how maternity leave works for your job.

🌸You can notify your job towards the end of your first trimester. Especially if your job position will require someone to step in while you’re on leave. If you don’t feel like now is the best time to tell them, then of course you can wait!

Hey y’all!
Did you know that there’s many ways you can utilize your babywearing materials depending on what type you have? Some parents prefer to carry their baby on the front and some prefer to carry on the back. Is there a reason to do one or the other?

Depending on what you’re using as a baby carrier, it may be designed to only front carry or only back carry. But if you are using fabric or cloth, you have more leeway with how you decide to carry your baby.

Whether you are front carrying or back carrying, make sure your baby is secure against your body. There are many videos you can watch to help you put on your babywearing device.

Also be careful of your baby’s hip placement, especially if they are still young. Best practices say that their hips and knees should create an “M” shape (hips bent and butt below their knees) to help prevent hip dysplasia.

Have you checked out my digital download to help you prepare for your postpartum period? It’s a great resource for expecting mamas who are not quite sure what needs to get done before baby arrives. You can purchase from my website (LINK IN BIO). Share it with a pregnant friend! 💕

It’s Black Babywearing Week!

There are lots of benefits to babywearing. It’s a practice that makes multitasking with a newborn (and even a toddler) much easier. There are many online stores that sell specific types of babywearing devices, but you can even use a long , thick piece of fabric to wear your baby.

While babywearing, you become hands free so you can continue to do things like:
🌸Wash dishes
🌸 Do laundry
🌸 Cook meals
🌸Go on walks
🌸Run errands

The best part about this is you can take care of other chores while keeping your baby close to you. And who knows, they might actually fall asleep 😉

Have you tried babywearing with your child? How did you like it?
