Mother Nature is lookin down on my food plots!!! I hope all yall have the same luck!!!

Worked on a past clients property today cuttin in new food plots and building tree walls to funnel the deer away from neighbors and into the plots. This is a smaller property, only 22 acres but with the terrain and existing cover, this could definitely become a .

Towards the east side of the property it narrows done to only 160 yrds wide but to draw and hold deer, we cut in a 1/3rd an acre plot on the most level location. On both the north and south side we took the trees that we fell and stacked them to form a wall, 1 for funneling deer and 2 to form more cover for bedding. We left opening on the east and west under perfect tree stand trees that can be hunted in both a west and northwestern wind, predominant wind direction to our area during hunting season.

The 3/4 acre plot on the western side was also tree wall lined so the owner would have a higher probability of seeing the deer enter the long skinny plot. The area in red is an area we cleared last year for them to socialize in, sight in rifles, park, put up a shed etc.... So the west side of this plot we stacked the majority of our downed trees to act as both a visual and sound barrier.

The blue dash lines are trails we cut in for easier travel corridors for both atvs and the deer herd traveling from plots down to the creek for water.

Come late March, the owner is going to broadcast crimson and ladino clover as well as fertilizer from a shoulder mounted spreader.

Well, we wrapped up the TSI work on the Heavy and Medium parcels @ the Mineola 440 today and to say the crew was whooped would be an understatement! Myself and my buddy Perry were on the chainsaws, my wife Jenn Billings and daughter Mikalah were on the sprayers! Knocked out another 7 acres with another 7 acres remaining!!! The last 7 is the Extra Heavy parcel with a .5 acre clear all parcel in the middle that will be turnt into a food plot.

We absolutely love being outdoors making Wildlife Habitat Improvements! Is it easy work, not at all but it's definitely rewarding! Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life!

What a day!!!! Second day on the Mineola 440 TSI runnin saws and sprayin stumps! We got just over 9.5 acres completed today ontop of the 7 acres from Wednesday. To say we are tired is an understatement but we absolutely love what we do!!! My wife caught me goofin around this mornin on one of our water breaks, little did I know I was being photographed! We have 1 more day of mulching, clients wants us to make a food plot bigger, make the path to food plot wider, and cut in a fire break between he property and his neighbors! That's tomorrow's job! Sunday we should be back out for more chainsawin and sprayin!!!

Started the TSI work on the Mineola 440 today!
We looked back over the plans, gassed up the saws, and filled the sprayer.
After an 8 hr day we were able to cut and spray 7 acres of Shagbark Hickory, Eastern Red Cedar, Redbud, and Elm. We kept all the White Oak as we are wanting the absolute best trees to produce a great mast for the owner's deer herd. This area is a sanctuary and we want to have thick cover with early successional growth for great woody browse! The end result we are looking for is an Oak Savanna.

We started on the 440 acre property today by forestry mulching 2 pastures in Mineola, Mo. Customer wanted to reclaim these pastures from the black locust, hedge apple, and honey locust trees that voluntarily grew here. Along side these unwanted species grew some white oaks, of course we saved them! Another concern of these pastures was the thick fescue thatch that lined the ground. Our mulcher did an excellent job cuttin through this thatch so when we do the prescribed burn, we get the flames to the dirt! After the burn, our plan is to plant this area in switch grass which will be awesome bedding as well as a new nursery for fawning season.
This corner of the property is part of a 40 acre sanctuary that will only be hunted by a raised Redneck hunting blind at the ridge of the field. You may wonder how a hunter is supposed to access this blind in the middle of a field but we will be planting 2 swaths of switch grass with a walking path down the middle that will allow unimpeded access! The blind will overlook a 13 acre corn field and 1/4 acre pond to the southwest and switchgrass bedding areas to the north and far southwest corner. The deer have zero cover on neighboring properties as it's all open pasture for grazing cattle! This is what we mean by Habitat by Design!!!
