When hiring a Wildlife Control specialist especially for Bats. It’s important to hire someone that knows what they’re doing. Takes pride in their work. And is properly licensed. Bat work is not something to skimp on. This week we were called to an inspection to check a large Franchise companies bat work.  we will call this company “the big O”
Big O is known as a bug company, but like to think they can do bat work. Unfortunately the technicians who performed the work are not licensed to do Wildlife Control. They have zero training. And do absolutely horrible work. Even the Inspector for the big O is not versed in proper bat work. Nor is he licensed as required.
The big O charged these folks $4500 (not including the cost for insulation clean out and replacement ) to stuff a bunch of steel wool in their soffits in an attempt to stop bats. Installing an eviction device made of the wrong material and installed in a completely wrong fashion to prevent re entry.

Needless to say. The big O was unsuccessful in the prevention and eviction process. And the bats re entered.
So not only does the work performed look horrible. It did not even help. We had to completely remove all the steel wool and perform a proper exclusion.

And even further more we had to do this as an emergency service as the big O thought it was a good idea to remove the contaminated insulation the same day the installed the prevention work. BATS STILL PRESENT ! And had plans to reinstall new insulation same day.
If the bats are not gone these customers would have new insulation that is contaminated all over again.

Sadly this is not a single case problem. This is an every day occurrence. People paying thousands of dollars for unsuccessful, bad work. And often time unnecessary work. Done by The Big O.

Please do your research . And please for your own sake stop hiring these large box store type companies!

Another bat tested positive in piatt county Monticello , Illinois .
This is becoming a lot more frequent than it used to be. Bats living in your structure is not something to procrastinate about. It is a real rust that should not be taken lightly.

That said. When hiring someone to perform bat work it is very important to make sure they know what they are doing.
Do not be fooled by the large companies out there stating they can put in “bat repelling insulation” there is no such thing and will leave you in the same situation with now new insulation that is getting contaminated by the still present bats. There is only one way to successfully and legally remove bats . And whoever you hire make sure they do it how the right way.

Just an FYI. This is a long read but it needs to be said.

Your insurance adjust, lawn guy, tree cutter, roofer, siding guy, handyman and bug guy have zero clue what it takes to legally, properly and successfully remove bats from a structure . And keep them out !

That’s why they are not wildlife control operators.
We just had a customer get told by a State Farm adjuster that she has 5 spots the bats are getting in and it should cost her just a couple hundred dollars. NONE of those spots are main entry points for her bat problem. They are the very obvious potential spots. But non are actually being used at this time.
He should not be speaking on this matter. As he has zero knowledge on the subject.
This job has an extensive amount of potential openings and 4 main entry points (non of which he identified) . It’s was quoted at much much higher that a couple hundred dollars . And his lack of knowledge and wrong diagnosis of what it will take has the customer confused and upset.

There is a reason you hire a professional to do what they are trained and knowledgeable on. And not a person in a different field .

That said . Make sure you check references. There are some companies that claim they do bats and have zero knowledge of it. And only get trusted because of their name.

Hiring a person or company that doesn’t know what they are doing. Or letting them tell you about something they are not trained for is like asking your pharmacist to tell you how your heart surgeon should perform your heart transplant.

Who you hire matters !
These raccoons were removed from an attic within 24 hours after WE set up. Prior to hiring us the customer elected to hire the cheap guy that set a trap on the ground for a month catching everything except for the target animals.
We literally set our ladder over his equipment to set up ours. Caught the 6 raccoons living in the attic in 2 days. Repaired the entry point and sealed any additional potential entry points to prevent future issues.
This job wasn’t the cheapest but it ended up costing more because of hiring the cheap guy first.

Groundhog teeth grow about 1/16 of an inch every week. So they have to constantly gnaw to keep them filed down.

Raccoons can climb walls !

Raccoon birthing season is closing in and they are on the hunt for nesting sites (aka your attic , soffit, chimney and crawl space) .
Its better to get them out before they have pups. And before they damage insulation and such building nests.
