Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Accumulation of dryer lint in the wall duct leads to long dry times, dryer failure, and in some cases can lead to a fire. Manufacturers, repair persons and fire prevention experts suggest yearly cleaning.
Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) crews are back in the stations after an early morning fire. At 1:38 a.m. this morning PFA crews were dispatched to an unconfirmed structure fire in the 2800 block of Des Moines Dr.
The occupant of a home was awoken to strange popping noises coming from the dryer, which was started an hour earlier before the occupant went to bed. As the occupant opened the dryer door a fire inside the dryer became more active. The occupant then evacuated and called 911.
The first PFA crew was on scene five minutes later and found heavy smoke throughout the home. The crew upgraded the call to a structure fire (which confirms the fire and sends more personnel).
After crews searched the building the fire was found in the dryer and quickly extinguished. The fire was contained to the dryer however, the home sustained extensive smoke damage. Crews assisted the occupant to gather belongings to stay with family. No injuries were reported.
